Of Newton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday September 9th, 2020 at the age of 81.

Born on June 13, 1939 in Boston, daughter of the late Daniel Hickey and Wilma (Zippel) Hickey. Joan was raised in Watertown and had lived for a period of time in Watertown before moving to Newton 51 years ago.

Joan graduated from Saint Patrick's Parochial School in Watertown. She was employed as a Clerk with BayBank in Waltham, Newton and Everett for many years.

In her spare time she was active at the Newton Senior Center; she enjoyed traveling especially cruising to Bermuda or visiting her young grandchildren in Germany, and she enjoyed walking her best friend and dog “Ted”.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward "Okie" O'Connor in 2016.

She is survived by her loving and devoted children David O'Connor of Framingham, Timothy O'Connor of Framingham, and William O'Connor and his wife Laurie (Bean) O'Connor of Virginia, her cherished grandchildren Christine and Courtney O'Connor of Nevada, and Abigail and Sean O'Connor of Virginia, and adoring great grandmother of Sophie, Julian and Sawyer. In addition she is survived by her beloved dog "Teddy" and by many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Florence Piantedosi and Charles Hickey.

I was so sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. I was fortunate enough to know Joan at Cabot Park. Joan and my mother, Leah, also a resident at Cabot Park became good friends. Joan was always so thoughtful and caring. Joan would visit my mother and always was so cheerful not to mention she would bring Teddy with her to visit. Joan would pick Teddy up and place him on my mother’s walker which my mother loved. Joan was a wonderful, considerate, caring and very special human being.
My deepest condolences to the family.
