Joan M. (Hickey) O'Connor

Of Newton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday September 9th, 2020 at the age of 81.

Born on June 13, 1939 in Boston, daughter of the late Daniel Hickey and Wilma (Zippel) Hickey. Joan was raised in Watertown and had lived for a period of time in Watertown before moving to Newton 51 years ago.

Joan graduated from Saint Patrick's Parochial School in Watertown. She was employed as a Clerk with BayBank in Waltham, Newton and Everett for many years.

In her spare time she was active at the Newton Senior Center; she enjoyed traveling especially cruising to Bermuda or visiting her young grandchildren in Germany, and she enjoyed walking her best friend and dog “Ted”.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward "Okie" O'Connor in 2016.

She is survived by her loving and devoted children David O'Connor of Framingham, Timothy O'Connor of Framingham, and William O'Connor and his wife Laurie (Bean) O'Connor of Virginia, her cherished grandchildren Christine and Courtney O'Connor of Nevada, and Abigail and Sean O'Connor of Virginia, and adoring great grandmother of Sophie, Julian and Sawyer. In addition she is survived by her beloved dog "Teddy" and by many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Florence Piantedosi and Charles Hickey.

For the safety of those we love and care about during this difficult time, and for those who wish to pay their respects to Joan and her family can do so in accordance with CDC, Federal and State guidelines during Visiting Hours in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham, MA., on Sunday September 13th from 10a.m.-12p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.

The family would like to especially thank Good Shepherd Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Joan in her final days.
