Terms and Conditions

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS WEBSITE (AS DEFINED HEREIN). By using this Website, you signify your acknowledgment and agreement to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree with these Terms and Conditions, DO NOT use this Website (as defined herein).

These Terms and Conditions govern the use of the Book Of Memories websites (the "Website") and other services (collectively the "Services"). FrontRunner Professional ("Company," "we," "us," "our") reserves the right in our sole discretion to change, amend or modify (the "changes") all or part of these Terms and Conditions at any time and from time to time for any reason. Any changes to these Terms and Conditions will be noted by indicating the date these Terms and Conditions were last made. Any changes will become effective no earlier than fourteen (14) days after they are posted; provided, however, that changes addressing new functions of the Services or changes made for legal reasons will be effective immediately. Your use or continued use of the Services after the date any such changes become effective shall constitute your express acceptance of the Terms and Conditions as changed, amended or modified.

Eligibility: Users under 18 years of age are not eligible to use the Services without consent. Users between the ages of 13 and 17, can use the Services with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years of age; provided, however, that such parent or legal guardian agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, and agrees to be responsible for such use of the Services. Company reserves the right to refuse use of the Services to anyone and to reject, cancel, interrupt, remove or suspend any Campaign, Donation, or the Services at any time for any reason without liability.

Definitions: In these Terms and Conditions "Campaign Organizers" means those raising funds, and "Campaigns" as their fundraising campaigns. Additionally, "Donors" means those contributing funds, and "Donations" as the funds they contribute. Campaign Organizers, Donors and other visitors to the Services are referred to collectively as "Users". The term "Campaign Organizers" shall also be deemed to include any individual(s) designated as a beneficiary of Campaigns.

Services: The Services are offered as a platform (the "Platform") to Users of the Services. Among other features, the Services are designed to allow Campaign Organizers to post Campaigns to the Platform to accept Donations from Donors. Although there are no fees to set up Campaigns, a portion of each Donation will be charged as fees for our Services and those of our third party payment processors. Company reserves the right to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Services with or without notice. You agree that Company will not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance thereof. The Company has no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any data or other content maintained or uploaded by the Services. To the extent you access the Services through a mobile device, your wireless service carrier's standard charges, data rates and other fees may apply. In addition, downloading, installing, or using certain Services may be prohibited or restricted by your carrier, and not all Services may work with all carriers or devices. By using the Services, you agree that we may communicate with you regarding Company and other entities by SMS, MMS, text message or other electronic means to your mobile device and that certain information about use of the Services may be communicated to us.

Charitable Giving: Campaigns are not charities to which you can make tax-deductible charitable contributions. Any Donation you make through the Platform may be processed by an unaffiliated business partner for which a processing fee (in addition to our FrontRunner Professional Fee) is deducted. You understand, acknowledge and agree that Company is not a charity, and Company does not solicit charitable donations for itself or for any third-party charitable institution. Company is merely acting as a payment facilitator for any Donations.

Administrative Platform Only: The Services are an administrative platform only. The Company is merely acting as a payment facilitator for any Donations between Campaign Organizers and Donors, and is not a party to any agreement between Campaign Organizers and Donors. Company is not a broker, agent, financial institution, creditor or insurer for any user. Company has no control over the conduct of, or any information provided by Campaign Organizers, and Company hereby disclaims all liability in this regard. We expressly disclaim any liability or responsibility for the success or outcome of any Campaign. Donors must in their sole discretion make the final determination of making Donations to any Campaigns. Donors are solely responsible for asking questions and investigating Campaign Organizers and Campaigns to the extent they feel is necessary before making a Contribution. All Donations are made voluntarily and at the sole discretion and risk of Donors. Company does not guarantee that Donations will be used as promised. Company does not endorse, guarantee, make representations, or provide warranties for or about the quality, safety, or legality of any Campaign. Donors are solely responsible for determining how to treat their Donations for tax purposes.

No Verification of Campaign Information: We do not verify the information that Campaign Organizers supply, and do not guarantee that the Donations will be used in accordance with any fundraising purpose prescribed by Campaign Organizers. We disclaim and assume no responsibility to verify whether the Donations are used in accordance with any applicable laws.

Your Registration Obligations: You may be required to register with Company in order to access and use certain features of the Services. If you choose to register for the Services, you agree to provide and maintain true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself as prompted by the Services' registration form. Campaign Organizers must register using their true identities, including their name and any image purporting to depict the Campaign Organizer. Registration data and certain other information about you are governed by our Privacy Policy. If you are under 13 years of age, you are not authorized to use the Services, with or without registering. In addition, if you are under 18 years old, you may use the Services, with or without registering, only with the approval of your parent or guardian. Certain aspects of our Services may also require you to register with (and agree to the terms of) third party service providers (e.g., payment processors or charitable donation processors) in order to utilize such Services. While we may help facilitate such registration in some cases, we are not a party to any such relationships and disclaim any responsibility or liability for the performance by such third parties. We may exchange information with such third party services in order to facilitate the provision of Services (and related third party services).

Public Display of Donations: Donors have the option to publicly display their Donations for public viewing or allow their information to be provided to the Campaign beneficiary(ies). To keep the details of your Donation private, simply click the appropriate checkbox during the Donation process. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information on the ways that we may collect, use, and store certain information about you and your use of the Services.

Payment of Donations: In order to contribute to a Campaign, Donors will be required to provide Company information regarding its credit card (i.e., VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) or other payment method. Donors represent and warrant to Company that such information is true and that Donors are authorized to use the credit card or payment method. Donors agree that a certain minimum Donation amount may apply, and that all Donation payments are final and cannot be refunded. Donors agree to promptly update account information with any changes that may occur and to pay the Donation amount that you specify. Donors hereby authorize Company to bill Donors' credit cards and payment methods in advance on a periodic basis until Donors terminate periodic payments through the Platform.

Fees: Company does not charge Campaign Organizers any upfront fees for Campaigns. Company retains a portion of each Donation contributed to Campaigns in the amount of four percent (4%) ("FrontRunner Professional Fee"). A portion of the Donation is payable to our third party payment processors ("Processing Fee"). Donors acknowledge that by contributing Donations to Campaigns, Donors are agreeing to any and all applicable terms and conditions set forth by a third party payment processor, in addition to these Terms and Conditions. The portion of each Donation payable to and retained by our third party payment processors are:

        • US Users ONLY: Third party payment processor charges a fee of 2.9% AND $0.30 per donation for VISA, MasterCard or Discover cards or 3.4% AND $0.30 per donation for American Express cards.

        • CA Users ONLY: Third party payment processor charges a fee of 2.9% AND $0.30 per donation for VISA, MasterCard or Discover cards or 3.4% AND $0.30 per donation for American Express cards.

All Tribute Pay Fees and Processing Fees ("Fees") are deducted directly from each Donation and are not reflected in the amount which Campaign Organizers can withdraw from the Campaign. We reserve the right to change any of the Fees from time to time. If we change any of the Fees, we will provide notice of the change on the Website or otherwise, at our option, at least fourteen (14) days before the change is to take effect. Your continued use of the Services after the change in any of the Fees becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the new Fees.

Indemnification: You agree to release, indemnify and hold Company and its affiliates and their owners, officers, employees, directors and agents harmless from any from any and all losses, damages, expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, rights, claims, causes of action, actions of any kind and injury (including death) arising out of or relating to your use of the Services, any Donation or Campaign, your violation of these Terms and Conditions or your violation of any rights of another. If you are a California resident, you waive California Civil Code Section 1542, which says: "A GENERAL RELEASE DOES NOT EXTEND TO CLAIMS WHICH THE CREDITOR DOES NOT KNOW OR SUSPECT TO EXIST IN HIS FAVOR AT THE TIME OF EXECUTING THE RELEASE, WHICH IF KNOWN BY HIM MUST HAVE MATERIALLY AFFECTED HIS SETTLEMENT WITH THE DEBTOR". To the extent you are a resident of another jurisdiction, you waive any comparable statute or doctrine

Regardless of the manner in which the arbitration is conducted, the arbitrator shall issue a reasoned written decision sufficient to explain the essential findings and conclusions on which the award is based. YOU AND COMPANY AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. Unless both you and Company agree otherwise in writing, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this specific provision is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this arbitration provision shall be null and void.

  1. Definitions

“Personal Information” includes both “Personally Identifiable Information” and “Non-Personally Identifiable Information”.

"Personally Identifiable Information" refers to information that lets us know the specifics of who you are and can be used to identify, contact or locate you. Personally Identifiable Information is requested when you register with us, make a Donation, correspond with us, or otherwise volunteer information, for instance, through the use of "Contact Us". Personally Identifiable Information may include, without limitation, your name, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, credit card number, and other identification and contact information.

"Non-Personally Identifiable Information" refers to information that does not identify a specific individual by itself or in combination with other information. We gather certain information about you based upon what you view on our Site in several ways. This information is compiled and analyzed on both a personal and an aggregated basis. This information may include the Site’s Uniform Resource Locator ("URL") that you just came from, which URL you next go to, what browser you are using, and your Internet Protocol ("IP") address. A URL is the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web (‘Web”). An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol ("TCP/IP") network, such as the World Wide Web. Networks use the TCP/IP protocol to route information based on the IP address of the destination. In other words, an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web, allowing Web servers to locate and identify your computer. Computers require IP addresses in order for users to communicate on the Internet, browse and shop

“Sensitive Personal Information” means Personal Information that reveals race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership or that concerns an individual’s health.

  2. Notice

Company shall inform you of the purposes for which it collects and uses Personal Information and the types of non-agent third parties to which Company discloses or may disclose that information. Company shall provide you with the choice and means for limiting the use and disclosure of your Personal Information. Notice will be provided in clear and conspicuous language when you are first asked to provide Personal Information to Company, or as soon as practicable thereafter. In any event, you will receive notice before Company uses or discloses the information for a purpose other than that for which it was originally collected.

  3. Choice

Company will offer you the opportunity to choose (opt-out) whether Personal Information is to be disclosed to a third party or to be used for a purpose other than that for which it was originally collected or has subsequently been authorized. For Sensitive Personal Information (when applicable), Company will give you the opportunity to affirmatively or explicitly consent (opt-in) to the disclosure of the information for a purpose other than that for which it was originally collected or has subsequently been authorized. Company will treat Sensitive Personal Information it receives from anyone the same as it would treat its own Sensitive Personal Information.

  4. Security

Company shall take reasonable steps to protect Personal Information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No company is immune from Internet attacks or data breaches. Company cannot guarantee the security of information on or transmitted via the Internet.

  5. Data Integrity

Company shall only process Personal Information in a way that is compatible with and relevant to the purpose for which it was collected or has been authorized. To the extent necessary for those purposes, Company shall take reasonable steps to ensure that Personal Information is accurate, complete, current, and reliable for its intended use.

7. How Company Shares Your Information

Company shares your Personal Information with third parties when it believes you have permitted such sharing, that it is reasonably necessary to offer services, or when legally required to do so. Company will not share your Personally Identifiable Information with third parties in a way that it thinks violates your privacy. The following non-exhaustive list contains examples of how Company shares or could share your information:

  1. If Site allows you to invite a friend to join the Site or become a User, and you choose to do so, the invitation will contain information that will allow your friend to identify you. The invitation may contain information about other Users your friend might know.

  4. There are also times when Company may make certain Personal Information about you available to strategic partners or third parties. These companies may help Company process information, render services to you, manage and enhance customer data, provide customer service, assess your interest in products and services, or conduct research or satisfaction surveys. Without such information being made available, it would be difficult for you to use Company's Site and services.

  5. Company may also share Personal Information when it has a good faith belief it is necessary to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, to prevent imminent bodily harm, or to protect itself and you from people violating the Terms and Conditions of the Site. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, and courts or other government entities.

  6. Company may disclose information pursuant to subpoenas, court orders, or other requests (including criminal and civil matters) if it has a good faith belief that the law requires such a response. This may include requests from jurisdictions outside of the United States if Company has a good faith belief that the response is required by law under the local laws in that jurisdiction, is applicable to users from that jurisdiction, and is consistent with generally accepted international standards.

  7. Company may disclose analyzed data in the form of purchasing trends or statistical data. No Personally Identifiable Information will be attached to this disclosure.

8. Business or Asset Transfer or Sale

Company may be sold, sell or buy businesses or assets of businesses, or merge with another business. In such transactions, Personal Information generally is one of the transferred business assets. Also, in the event that Company, a line of business of Company, or substantially all the assets of Company are transferred, Personal Information may well be one of the transferred assets. Company will make a reasonable effort to provide notice on the Site, and to notify you via e-mail to the most recent e-mail address that you have provided of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.

GIUSEPPINA “PINA” (MAIONE) AISMONDO

Of Waltham, passed away on Thursday, May 11th, 2023 after a long and hard-fought battle with dementia. She was born in the beautiful city of Naples, Italy, one of eight siblings to Ciro and Rosa (Mosca) Maione. Pina’s dream was to become a Mid-Wife but that dream was cut short when she was forced to leave school, and go to work in a candle making company.
to help support her family,

In April 1953 Pina married her husband, Pasquale, formally of Genova. They, along with their three children, immigrated to the United States in 1969. They settled in Waltham, as many of Pina’s siblings and mother did. Although they had moved thousands of miles from their home, the brothers and sisters stayed close to each other in their new country. They focused on building new lives that still centered around their strong family bond.

Pina was at her happiest when she was in her home; A home in which she raised 3 generations of children. Sunday dinners were her favorite, she loved cooking for her family, but mostly she loved watching them enjoy her food. It was always “Mangia, Mangia”, or “Do you want some café?” Pina was eventually persuaded by her family to share her incredible cooking with others on a larger scale. She began selling her fresh gnocchi and fresh pasta at Russo’s in Watertown and the Westin Hotel in Waltham. As you can imagine, it was an instant success and Pina realized she had outgrown her home kitchen. Pina always an entrepreneur at heart, at the age of 62 decided to open up a larger space and PINA PASTA was born. When most people are settling into pre-retirement, she was taking the fresh pasta world by storm. Within months she was supplying fresh pasta to some of the best restaurants and hotels in the surrounding area such as Mistral, Four Seasons and Teatro. PINA PASTA was an instant hit in the community and brought a taste of Naples, Italy to Waltham, MA. The talk of the good food may have been what brought people in, but what kept them coming back was Pina’s charisma, passion and ability to make every single person that walked through the door feel special and as if they were part of her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Pasquale Aismondo in 2015. Her brother Domenic Maione, her sister Luisa (Maione) DiSanza, her sister Anna (Maione) Fei, and her sister Carmela (Maione) Pandolfi.

Pina is survived by her loving & devoted children Bruna Bucacci of Waltham, Marco Aismondo and his wife Bette Annese of Chelmsford, and Carmela Velella of Waltham; her cherished grandchildren Sarah Bucacci-Reier and her husband Russell Reier of Waltham, Carla Ouellette and her husband Karl of Framingham, Marc Anthony Aismondo, Joseph Aismondo of North Carolina, and Johnny Velella of Boston. She is also survived by her beloved great grandchildren Domenic, Roman, Dante, Aidan and Julian; her step grandchildren, Michael, Stephen and Gina Annese and her dear siblings Maria (Maione) Zottola, Elvira (Maione) Zottola and John Maione all of Waltham. In addition, she is survived by many of nieces and nephews.

Those who wish to pay their respects to Pina and her family can do so at the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, Waltham on Thursday, May 18th from 4-7 PM. For those who wish to pay their final respects, but are unable to attend, please be sure to sign the guestbook at www.BrascoFuneralhome.com. Parking attendants will be on duty.

My dearest cousins,

I am so sorry for your loss. I too am brokenhearted that she is gone. The world is a much sadder place without her kind smile and loving touch.

Most of my best and fondest childhood memories are of her and how she filled our lives with fun and a sense of adventure. Even a simple tram ride with her was like going on a world exploration adventure.

I remember her simple elegance as a young woman and the way she would flick her head in her demure coquette way. What a beauty!

My entire life, whether as a child or as an adult, I never left her house without something, anything. Be it a little clay minute pot or a cookie or some taralli, she always sent me off with a little treat. She was generous and caring and loving and I will forever miss her.

She was a woman of quiet strength, perseverance, and wisdom. Her world views were always spot-on and she was an astute judge of character.

Her voice from the top of her stairs still rings in my ears. I shall always remember her as she would welcome me, with open arms and a sweet smile.

She will always be with you, with all of us, guiding us and loving us.

I pray for your solace and that she may rest in peace with her much loved siblings and family in heaven.

I am sorry I could not write sooner but some losses take a long time to register. Some will never be fully processed.

I love you,

Luisa

Nonna, It has taken me so long to find the strength to write on your memorial wall. Its almost like if I dont write on this wall, none of this is real and you're still here with me. With all of us. I feel like a certain part of my life hit pause on May 11th and I'm still waiting to hit the play button.

I dont know how to put into words just how special you are to me. How to put into words how much credit you deserve for the woman, mother, friend, worker, etc. that I am today. You taught me to be strong. You told me that "life is tough, so you have to be tougher." You taught me to show up for those that matter to you. Your presence is that greatest present you can give. I have used these lessons in each and every day of my life. You saved me Nonna. I don't know if I ever got the chance to tell you that, but you did. At so many points in my life, you were there like a guardian angel exactly when I needed you. It scares me to think what life will be like without you but I promise that I will keep using everything you taught me to make you proud. I miss and love you so much. Forty years was not nearly enough time. No time with you would ever be enough.

Thank you for not only the unconditional love you gave me but also for the unconditional love you gave my boys. We will carry it with us always

Until I see you again, Te Violgio Bene Assai.

Thank you all for coming today to celebrate my Mothers life and to wish her farewell and till we meet again. I hope you all bear with me today cause my Mom lived a great, long, beautiful life of 94 years and it would take that long to describe all the good she accomplished in her life.

My Mom was born in 1928 to a family of 8, Anna, Luisa, My Mom Pina, Maria, Carmelina, Elvira, Domenic and Giovanni. The Maione siblings. They were led by their Mother Rosa and Father Ciro. The parents ran a small deli style store and made bread in their home, and when my Mom was young she would deliver the bread with some of her siblings and their Father, before going to school.

In 1939, her Father died and WW2 started, this put the family in some very trying times. My Mom had to quit school at a very early grade to help her Mother out. She had to help raise the younger siblings. This was hard but when 1942 came around, things got a little tougher. The Americans invaded Sicily, Italy switched sides, but in Naples, the Germans replaced the regular army units with SS units. Now we have all seen the documentaries, the movies and heard the stories, but my Mother and her siblings actually lived it.

My Mom had plenty of stories about those times. They were always hungry, they were always in fear, every single day. The SS was ruthless and they were very mean to the Italian civilians. Once my Uncle Domenic stole some beans from an SS soldiers horse food sack, and they made bean soup. If caught, he would have lost his life, along with the entire family. But while the soup was cooking, the air raid sirens forced them to the bomb shelters with the pot of soup. A bomb landed close to the shelter and dropped plaster into the soup. My Mom said they were so hungry, that they still ate it, and to her dying days she would still feel the grit of the plaster when she ate past e fagiol. A bomb landed near their home and nearly killed my Aunt Luisa. Another time my Mom and her cousin were being chased by SS soldiers cause they were trying to steal some food, and they ran into some large street pipes piled up on the side of the road to barely get away from getting shot. She dressed male family members like girls as to avoid being shot by the SS. Naples was a major sea port and was being constantly bombed by the Americans, to the point where they became refugees and the entire family had to leave their home to another town to avoid the war.

Once the Americans liberated Naples, my Mother, along with her sisters would do laundry for the American GIs. No appliances, no electricity, water had to be pulled by hand from a well. She would also sell peanuts. And as she told me, she was 17 and she was well endowed and when the GIs would drive by they would yell “Pina, I love your peanuts”.

After the war my Mom went to work at a candle factory located next to her home, and of course all the money went to her Mother.

In 1953, she married my Father, Pasquale and started a family. If any of you know my Mom, you know why my Father let her be the boss, and she made a good boss, but she honored my Father, she always put a plate of food in front of him, she served him, even when he became as sick as she was at the end of his life, she cared for him, lovingly and with great care, until the day he passed,. We didn’t have much money, but she made us feel like we were the richest kids in town. Our home had rough granite floors, and mossy dirt in between. My Mom raised pigeons for us to eat, she would walk to markets every day, come home and cook. Nothing was pre packaged or prepared for easy cooking. When she bought a chicken, she had to kill it, defeather it, gut it and then cook it. She would always eat the neck or suck on the bones of the chicken, I thought she just liked that part of the chicken, but she was just making sure that we had enough to eat first. She would remove all the wool out of all the matresses and fluff it with a fork, then stuff it back in. She would wash our dirty diapers and reuse them, there were no stores to buy pampers. I never once heard my Mother complain, and she never seemed to get sick, if she was, she still got up and did everything that needed to be done, just like any other Mom today, but without any modern commodities.

Everyone in our community had respect for my Mother, I remember my friends telling her “signora geppi, you have so much”. She would make appointments to go see houses that were out of her price range, so people would think she had money. She was always impeccably dressed and she dressed her kids to the nines whenever we went out. She had a mischievous side to her. When we got a house phone, she would call random numbers and ask the person on the other side if their fridge was running, after they checked, she would tell them to go catch it and hung up. Stupid crank, but she would laugh like no tomorrow. She was always having conversations with everyone, she had more stories and she always made people laugh. I remember when we decided to move to America in 1969, everyone she knew came to see her, and they were balling their eyes out, hating to see her leave.

My Mom did not know the language, left all she knew behind, had $75 in her pocket and only had her family for support. She got an apartment for us and her and my Dad would walk 3 miles each way from Waltham to Watertown for work just to save the dime fare on the bus. She went to school at night to learn English, she got a drivers license. No Welfare, no EBT card, too much pride in her. She embraced America, but never forgot her roots.

She went back to Italy to sell my Grandparents condo, she stuffed her bra with the cash and snuck it out of Italy. They got a mortgage and purchased a 2 family house. She loved that house, she loved it cause she knew it was a compass point for her family. Everything she did was for her family.

Now this is the foundation, the forge that made my Mom, and you would think that would be enough for most people, but not quite. My Mother was a force and this is how she used her experiences from her upbringing.

My Mom raised her kids and cared for our family and home, but my Mother hated to waste a minute of any day. She pushed my Uncle Domenic to open up Domenics Bakery and worked there tirelessly to help her brother and his business. She would come home and work her garden, her beautiful flower beds were her joy, her vegetable garden. She would show off her tomatoes, or her eggplant, she was so proud and then she would use them for a delicious meal for us to eat.

She would rake the leaves, she could not stand her house being dirty, inside and out, she swept the front of her stairs every day, she said if the front of the house looks messy then people will think the inside is worse. She would use the washing machine to wash clothes but not the dryer cause it wasted money and the clothes smelled fresher if the air dried them, and if you ever dried clothes on a line, she was absolutely correct. The only time she would sit to watch tv would be to watch a cooking show.

When the grandkids started to come along in her 50s (Sarah, Carla, who was the last grand daughter she would have, everyone after that has been a boy, Johnny, Marc and Joseph) she threw herself into raising the girls while my sister worked. She would bring those girls everywhere she went to run errands or at times help at the bakery. She would immerse herself when the boys came to visit, sang the old Italian children songs to them, made special baby food for them, cooked their favorite food, no matter what it was, all they needed to do was ask. If they wanted pizza, she would make the sauce, and the dough from scratch, and the pizza was out of this world. She always seemed to have all the ingredients. No matter what mood the kids were in, she would never get mad at them, always rectified anything with loving care. She corrected and chastised us, if we used force. She loved everyone equally, there were no favorites, cause they were all her favorites, they were her life and she gave them everything, but nothing was in material form. When she came to the beach with them, the boys would catch and bring her minnows or baby crabs, she would eat them live to the screaming joy of the kids, my kids still have those fond memories.

She opened up her own store, Pina Pasta at the age of 61. She worked there 8 to 10 hours every day, cooking all her favorite foods by hand, making gnocchi and raviolis by hand. She was the life of the store, feeding people out of her hand to let them try the food she was cooking at that moment. Always laughing, inviting people to the kitchen to explain to them what she was doing. Would not leave the store until she thought all the dirty chores were done because only she could remove the dirt, and she was a master at it. Then she would go home and do everything I mentioned before. And by the way, she always made sure her hair looked good and she always wore her signature pearls through it all. Not even a quadruple by pass and clearing of the caratic arteries stopped her. She was back in the store as soon as she felt well. Again she never uttered a complaint.

Now my Mother was not just a hard worker, she had a tongue that could cut like a scalpel, her mind was at genius level. You could not win an argument with her, no matter what the subject was. I heard my Uncle Adriano and Uncle Mario tell her on numerous occasions “you should have been a lawyer”. One time the runoff of rain water was depositing itself in our yard due to bad storm drains on our street. She constantly called the DPW to complain. They tried to rectify the problem to no avail, finally they just walked away, hoping that she would get tired and give up. Nope. She started calling the mayors office. So much so, that the mayor came down to talk personally to my Mom. The Mayor told her she would take care of it, and if she wanted to, she could come to her office if it wasn’t rectified. A few months later, my Mom barged into Mayor McCarthys office while the secretary was trying to stop her, sat down and said “ you told me to come and see you, the problem is not fixed”. Needless to say, the problem was eventually taken care of.

My Mother once was at the Arsenal mall, walking by Victoria secrets, she saw the scantly dressed mannequins, went in the store and chastised the manager about having disgusting displays with children walking by. She was once walking by the smoke shop on Main st and they had the Penthouse and Playboy magazine displayed in the window, she went in and yelled at the owner, the next week he had placed them displayed inside the store. She would come in our rooms and rearrange our furniture, saying the room looked better the way she arranged it. God help you if you changed it back, cause it was her house.

At 81, the Great grand children started to arrive, (Domenic, Roman, Dante, Aidan and Julian). They called her TeTe, cause as soon as she would see them she would yell TeTe. If you don’t know what TeTe is, it’s the I see you in peek a boo. The love that she had for the great grand kids was magnified 1000 fold to that of the grand kids, but equally, everyone got her unending devotion, love, Italian tales. She would teach all her kids Italian, sit and tell stories, always had fun, she had endless energy, spending time playing with them, going to their recitals, baseball games. Same as she did with her grandkids, and of course her food.

Shortly after that, I married my Bette, and she brought 3 kids to our family (Michael, Gina and Stephen). She took them in her arms as if they were her own blood. Telling them the stories, and entertaining them whenever we got together. She asked of Gina every single time we spoke on the phone. Which was every single day of my adult life. Ma, I will miss those conversations immensely, you listened to every single word and your advice was always truthful, even if it disagreed with what I thought.

I cant even touch on the joy my Mom brought to so many people. But many of you have told me how my Mom was your favorite, she made you happy, you left her home after a visit with a feeling of happiness. She was so graceful, genuine, real, never a negative word, always positive. For a little woman she had a gigantic personality, All true. You could not spend a second with my Mom without receiving some sort of advice, life lesson, stories of her experiences, a recipe, a criticism but not one to make you upset or sad, or mad. You knew she was telling you cause she honestly cared about you. She never forgot to ask you of something that you had confided in her, and what the outcome was. She always used little Italian rhymes that applied to the situation at hand, or something her Grandmother or aunts had taught her, always trying to teach us. She always had money stashed away, I don’t know where she got it, but she always had a wad in her room. I asked her once “Ma how come you always have money, and she said, give me a pound of flour and I can feed my family for a month”

My Mother lived a full 94 plus years. She never wasted a second of that time. She made sure she touched everyone in a positive way, sometimes she used a broom handle or a wooden spoon on me, but she did it with love, but I also deserved it. She never laid a finger on any of her grandkids or great grandkids. She tried to lead by example, I hope everyone in my family honors that example and carries it through their life. She was the wind under our wings, she wanted all of her family to be the most that they could be. She spread that to all her nieces and nephews, sisters, brothers, even strangers. The world will truly be a sadder place without her.

The last conversation I had with my Mom was about 5 days before she passed, when everyone was visiting her and she was very weak, very frail but at times lucid, if even for a few seconds, “She asked me if we were having a party. I told her yes, and she said lets go upstairs and have a nice meal, and then shortly after she asked me if everyone had enough to eat, and I told her yes Ma you fed us all”. In my heart I know that made her happy, cause she knew her family was ok, that she could go in peace and what ever suffering she was going through ended for her. No more pain Ma, God knows you suffered and you never complained. To this day when I feel tired, I think of you and the strength you had your entire life and that makes me go on, you make us go on, you make us get up, cause you always got up. You need to be honored, and we will try our best to honor you.

Ma, every time the sun warms my face, I know it will be your embrace. I love you and I will miss you very, very, much. We will all miss you so very, very much.

My dearest Nonna. I don't have enough words to describe how much you mean to me and how much I will miss you. I would not be the person, mother or daughter I am today without you and your upbringing. You taught me what it means to be strong. I will carry you with me everyday of my life and not a day will go by when I do not wish we had more time, even one more day. I love you Nonna.
