Of Waltham, passed away Saturday evening April 6th, 2019 at the V.A. Boston Healthcare System in Brockton at the age of 78 after a long battle with cancer.

Born on April 12, 1940 in Boston; son of the late John Mitchell and Bridget (McKenna) Mitchell, Ken was raised in Somerville and has been a resident of Waltham for the past 55 years.

Ken owned and operated a Barber Shop in Waltham on Prospect Hill Road for 32 years.

He was a longtime member of the Waltham Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #953. Ken enjoyed bowling, golfing and had been a Ranger at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton for many years. He was an avid reader who enjoyed all types of art & culture.

Family was the central focus of his life; he was a devoted caretaker to his mother for years and he especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters. Known for his great sense of humor, Ken had a big circle of friends and he lived life to the fullest.

He served faithfully and honorably with the United States Army in the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was proud of the dedication of Mitchell Square in Somerville; honoring seven of the Mitchell brothers for their service to our country.

Devoted and loving father of Lisa A. Mitchell of Waltham and Terri Lopas and her husband Rick of Natick. Cherished grandfather of Erica and Christina Lopas.

Dear brother of the late Pauline Moran, Robert, Raymond, Jackie, Arthur, Billy, Joseph, David and Peter Mitchell.

Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St, WALTHAM on Thursday at 7:00pm. Visiting Hours on Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. Funeral Procession will leave the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. for the burial at the V.A. Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday at 1:00p.m.

Lisa, I am so sorry I didn't know about your loss. Your dad was an old, old friend of my husband Bill, as you know, and they always shared a laugh or a funny story when they saw each other. I hope they are sharing a laugh or two now in Heaven.
Love, Gloria Champion and family

So sorry about the loss of your loved one. Losing someone we love can be the most difficult thing a person must endure. It is a comfort to know that God has promised a resurrection of all who have died. He has a “yearning” to restore our loved ones back to life. Please read Job 14:14,15. Uncle Kenny was without a doubt the funniest person that I have ever met. His ability to tell funny story and make everyone laugh was a unique gift. Humor is something that connects us all and provides some solace in challenging and difficult times. I always smile and chuckle when I recall his humorous tales that usually involved him as a central character. Thank you for all the laughs my uncle and may you keep the Mitchells in heaven entertained for eternity. James Mitchell
