Obituary for George Wilbur Stiglich Jr.

George Wilbur  Stiglich Jr.
Of West Newton, passed away peacefully Friday July 22nd, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at Newton – Wellesley Hospital at the age 84.

Born on May 1, 1932 in Boston; son of the late George Wilbur Stiglich Sr. and Hazel (Plummer) Stiglich; George was a lifelong resident of Newton.

George proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War.

A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, George was employed as a Banker with Newton National Bank and after a corporate merger the Shawmut Bank for 26 years. After leaving the banking industry George was employed as Assistant Treasurer for the City of Newton for 26 years and Treasurer of the Newton Municipal Credit Union for 40 years until his retirement 2 years ago.

His life focused around his family and his friends; he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend to many. George always looked forward to the family vacations in Rockport for 23 years and most recently the time spent in Marshfield. In his spare time he was an avid reader and loved listening to Big Band Music.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Mary E. (Charbonneau) Stiglich, his loving & devoted daughters Lisa Stiglich of Marshfield, Dianne (Stiglich) Gilligan and her husband Sean of Plymouth, Joanne (Stiglich) LaForest and her husband Chris of Marshfield, his cherished grandchildren Garrett, Jesse, Cassidy, Ashley, Bailey and Kiley, and his nephew Wayne Van Wart of Burlington. In addition he is survived by many close friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his dear sister Phyllis (Stiglich) Van Wart and his nephew Mark Van Wart.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of George’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Tuesday morning July 26th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow with United States Army Military Honors at Newton Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Monday July 25th from 4 – 8 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking.
