Aunt Eleanor

Aunt Eleanor was special to me as Uncle Basile, who was my dad's (Uncle Toodie) oldest brother, was my godfather. It was she, as the loving, warm woman she was,who made the connection for me. Even as I type this I see her hugging her arms in an embrace close to her body, a high cheekbone warm smile as she stoops down to make sure I know I am a special niece who has her undivided attention even as all the other adults during the family visits are catching up with one another. It was always a comfort to know she was in the world so her passing is sad for me. I also remember her distinctly as Aunt Eleanor, because my dad' sister was also Eleanor (to be known as Auntie El), and I wanted to be clear when there was any reference. That was fun. Her children, my first cousins and their spouses were always so kind and friendly to us young Vanarias; we were enthralled. I am grateful that in my family I have had my Aunt Eleanor.
