Obituary for John Joseph Chiasson

John Joseph Chiasson
John Chiasson, 35, of Waltham Massachusetts, passed away on November 12th, 2014 in his home. He was the loving son of Denise and Frank Chiasson.

John was born April 3rd, 1979 at Waltham Hospital. He was the third oldest of a wild group of five. The oldest of the boys, John was a leader in various contexts. As a child, he was a boy scout and an awesome pitcher on the baseball team. We always loved watching him in “the zone”. His reward for a good game was always Piggy’s Pizza from the Shack.

John became an uncle at the young age of ten and thus developed a love of children. John grew to be a towering 6’6’’, but he always managed to come down to the level of the Chiasson children. When his great nieces and nephews were born, he was always one of the first to reach out with a bright smile on his face to hold the new additions to the family.

This love was also seen in his interactions with animals. Over the years, the Chiasson clan has welcomed several dog celebrities. We use this term “celebrities” because it seems that the whole city knew these pooches. If these dogs were celebrities, then John was their personal assistant. He would always make sure these dogs were seen in the brightest of spotlights, despite their apparent pitfalls. For example, John was the one to patiently clean up the mess after Seven, the spritely boxer, had consumed a Duraflame log in its entirety.

John also loved movies. He could watch the Passion of the Christ and Godzilla and find meaning in both. Members of his family and friends would often look to John if they were struggling to decode a film. Movies were not only a passion, but also a way to connect to others. John liked to sit with his father to watch the cowboys and see the most prominent actors of today such as Jack Nicholson in their debut roles. He would also make lists of the movies that he thought his mother would love and then pass those movies on to her.

John had a knack for finding talent within the music scene. While he did not play instruments as often as his siblings did, he still had quite the ear for the inner workings of a good tune. In this same vein, he was more than capable to spot a terrible tune and thus leave the location such as Walgreens or Hannaford where it was playing.
He also had a talent for drawing. John could whip up a caricature of any person. His style often reflected the urban graffiti and skateboarding scene, of which he had been a lifelong enthusiast.

In addition to his parents, Frank and Denise, John is survived by his siblings: Christine, Leanne, Paul, and Mark. He has three nieces: Suzanne, Mandy, and Megan along with three nephews: Michael, David and Brandon. He also has great nieces, nephews, loving extended family, and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of John's life at Saint Mary's Church, 145 School St., Waltham Tuesday, November 18, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Monday, November 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody St., Waltham. Parking attendants will be on duty.
