Obituary for Thomas J. "Tom" Buckley

Thomas J. "Tom" Buckley

Of Andover, formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Friday morning November 10th, 2023 with loving family by his side in his home after a long illness at the age of 77.

Born on July 5, 1946 in Newton; son of the late Edward L. Buckley Sr. and Helen (Loughlin) Buckley. Tom was raised and educated in Newton, he had resided in Waltham for 38 years before moving with his wife, to be with his daughter in Andover 2 years ago.

Tom attended 12 years of Sacred Heart High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. During his time in school he played basketball and baseball. Even after graduating he decided to stay involved by coaching many boys teams in Newton and then in Waltham for the girls YBA league when his daughter started playing.

After high school he served for 6 years as a sergeant in the Air National Guard. Once he was honorably discharged, Tom furthered his education at Northeastern University in Boston and graduated with his Masters degree from Babson College in Wellesley. Tom had been employed as Director of Marketing in the security systems industry throughout his life.

Tom was a longtime member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post #156 in Waltham. He loved a simple night of making pizzas and watching movies with loved ones. His greatest enjoyment in life came from being surrounded by family & friends. He cherished the time spent with family especially his grandchildren. Another love of Tom’s was traveling. He had been to 49/50 states and to many other countries, but his favorite remained Ireland. He cherished his Irish roots and loved traveling there to meet and connect with his Irish relatives.

Another of Tom’s greatest loves was his wife Gail. Although married for 54 years Tom could still recall their first date and what she was wearing. He spoke of Gail referring to her as the love of his life and still loved going out on dates and weekend trips to Maine with her.

He is survived by his beloved wife Gail (Ribero) Buckley; his devoted & loving daughter Megan Buckley Nadeau and her husband Eric of Andover; and his cherished grandchildren Ainsley & Jack. In addition, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
