Obituary for Leon Waldemar Bester Sr.

Leon Waldemar Bester Sr., age 78, of Winchester, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Leon was born in Przemyśl, Poland and emigrated to the United States at the age of 16. Extremely respectful and intelligent, with a wittiness and charm that met no strangers. He had genuine gift that connected him to people whether through one of his animated conversations or an on time joke. Leon had many hobbies that he pursued with passion. In his teens and 20's he was a valued member of the Pierwszy Puchar Białz Orzeł, a soccer club based in Dorchester, Ma. Proud of the friendships he made within the club, Leon stayed in contact with his teammates and he cherished the connections he kept with distant family members who lived abroad until the time of his passing. He also took great pride in his membership with the Polish American Citizens club as a young adult, where he met many longtime friends.

A man of great moral character who stood true to his principles and opinions always taking into consideration how his actions affected others, never forgetting where he came from, he loved telling stories of his family and keeping the memories of our ancestors alive.

He loved art, carpentry, listening to oldies but goodies and could be found singing along to his favorite songs while either meticulously working in his well kept garden or around his property he found contentment in all he did. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, going for walks, camping with his boys, and traveling abroad, especially his many trips to Poland. Leon found peace and quiet by visiting his home in Bethlehem, New Hampshire where he spent weekends enjoying nature. An active member of his church, Our Lady of Czestochowa in Dorchester, Ma., where he was a pillar of his community through supporting his church family. Leon was a kind and thoughtful man that touched the hearts of all he came in contact with and his hardworking nature inspired those closest to him. His strength and perseverance enabled him to build Lab Medical Manufacturing, located in Billerica, Ma., Summerville, South Carolina, and Nowa Dęba, Poland, where he continued to touch the lives of those who worked with him.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Wincenty and Franciszka Bester and his brother, Zdzisław.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Renata Bester; daughter Jennifer Bester of Reading, husband David Walsh, grandchildren Francesca and Theodore; daughter Jill Bester-Ryan of Hamilton, husband Jason Ryan, grandchildren Celina and Lincoln; son Krystian Bester of Billerica, wife Libertine, grandchildren, Kyler, and Isabella; and sons Leonek and Maximilian of Winchester, Ma.
