Obituary for Jean Elizabeth Rudenauer (Leary)

Jean E Rudenauer, 82, of Waltham passed away on Saturday, January 7th 2023, at Mt. Auburn Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on Thursday, August 8, 1940, to the late Thelma (Burns) Leary and Fredrick Leary Sr. of Waltham, MA.

Jean will be remembered as a warm, caring, and compassionate woman, always showing love and gratitude, even in her final days. Whether in a pool, lake or ocean, she would swim and float for hours. She cherished time with family, preparing and baking for the holidays was always a special time. The family has many fond memories of spending summers at Newfound Lake, NH. Her trips to the beaches of Maine were spent collecting sea glass and shells, and yes, in the cold water until she was numb. She was an ultimate fan of the Bruins and Red Sox.

After raising her children, Jean worked at the Arkwright Mutual Insurance Company of Waltham until 1998, taking an early retirement to spend time with grandchildren. Affectionately, known to most as Nino, Jean resided in Maynard in 1995, for 10 years, then moved back to Waltham.

Predeceased by her beloved husband George Leo "Buddy" Rudenauer and her loving son Michael Marshall. She was the sister of the late Frederick (Fred) Leary Jr., Patricia (Patti) Johnston, Carol Leary.

Jean is survived by her devoted children, Dottie (Marshall) Ryan of Waltham, Karen (Marshall) Hayum of Maynard, Jennifer Patterson and her husband James of Watertown, Melissa Rudenauer and her Fiancé Brian Jolles of Marlborough. Nino’s cherished and much loved four Grandchildren, Olivia, Marshall, Rachel, and Leo. Her loving siblings, Daniel Leary, Marylou Hoffmann, and Marcia Leary all of Waltham. In addition, she leaves several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to gather and remember the love and friendship Jean shared during visiting hours on Tuesday January 17th, 2023 from 3 pm to 6 pm at The Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapels, located 773 Moody Street Waltham, MA.
