Obituary for Bernard James Gladman

Bernard James Gladman, 86, formerly of Waltham passed away peacefully in Rotonda West, Florida on Saturday , August 1st, 2020.

Born to the late William and Dorothy Gladman (Chambers) Wednesday, on September 27, 1933.

Shortly after graduating Waltham High School Class of 1951 Bernard enlisted into The United States Airforce, where he proudly and honorably served his country during the Korean War.

In 1955, he and Martha were married and began their family. Among his many attributes he was a protector, provider and a great cook who worked hard and loved to entertain his family and friends on the weekend. Nothing gave him more pleasure than preparing a meal for those he loved, whether it was his signature Cream Sherry Mushroom Sauce during The Christmas Holidays or cooking for the Waltham Elks where he held a Lifetime Membership at Lodge # 953.

Bernard and Martha moved to York, Maine after their retirement where they enjoyed spending time with their family. Later, they moved to Florida permanently. As a father and husband, he loved traveling to New Hampshire and Canada to visit other family as long as Martha was by his side. They enjoyed Deep Sea Fishing by day and being warmed by a campfire at night but no dance floor could compare to the one they danced on “If Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog” by Three Dog nights was being played.

We will miss his loving Ways, the aromas that came from their kitchen, and his infectious laughter but we are at peace knowing he and his beloved Martha are reunited once again.

Predeceased by his brothers and their wives: Walter and Marie Gladman, George and Ruth Gladman, William and Martha Gladman. Sister Hazel and her husband Robert Goguen and his brother-in- law Robert McAdams.

Survived by his loving three children, Scott & his wife Lisa Gladman of Waltham, Lisa & her husband Ralph Griggs of Hubbardston, and Susan & her husband Lanning Molleur of Tyngsboro. Several grandchildren: Jennifer, Ralph, Joshua, Krista, Alysa, Zachary, Sydney and many great grandchildren. In addition, his sister Shirley McAdams and numerous other relatives.

Family and friends are invited to gather and reminisce in the love and memories both Bernard and Martha shared during visiting hours on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm with a Celebration of both their lives during a Memorial Service in The Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapels, located 773 Moody Street Waltham, MA. Parking Attendants will be available. Military Honors will be held by The United States Air force’s Patriot Honor Guards, of Hanscom Air Force Base, in honor of Bernard’s faithful service during the Korean War.
