Age 94, of Waltham, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 19, 2022. He was born in Boston on February 12, 1928. Beloved husband of the late Margaret L. (O’Brien) Mahoney.

Jim will be greatly missed by his three daughters, Gael (Mahoney) DeAmicis and her husband Richard of Townsend, Elaine (Mahoney) Garnache and her late husband Albert of Waltham, and M. Julie (Mahoney) Lesure and her husband Ned of Worcester. He also leaves behind his dear friend of 36 years, Marie Finlayson of Newton.

Loving Papa to Andrew DeAmicis and his wife Sara of Framingham, Matthew DeAmicis and his wife Allison Roddy of Philadelphia PA, Evan DeAmicis of Townsend and Samuel and Sophie Lesure of Worcester. Jim is also survived by his four great grandchildren, Ethan, Liliana and Charlotte DeAmicis, and Kit Matthew Roddy.

Dear brother of Eileen Flynn of Vermont and Patricia Ciccolo of Virginia. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and a great niece and great-nephews.

Jim lived in Dorchester growing up. After High School, he attended the State Teachers College at Fitchburg, now known as Fitchburg State University. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, a First Lieutenant, and recipient of the Bronze Star. He received a Master's Degree from Boston University upon his return from the war.

Jim was married in Los Angeles CA upon his return from the war. He initially lived in Cambridge and then settled in Waltham with his young family.

Always the educator, Jim was a teacher, and later an administrator, for 42 years in the Boston Public Schools.

Jim was passionate about family, sports and politics. In his later years he delighted in viewing pictures of his grand children and great-grandchildren and hearing about his daughters’ lives. He loved the Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox and Notre Dame Football. Jim especially enjoyed it when family members stopped by to watch the games with him.

The family wishes to thank the VA Bedford facility, All Care Visiting Nurses and Hospice and Guardian Angels Senior Services.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to gather and remember the love and friendship Jim shared during visiting hours on Wednesday morning November 30th from 9:30am to 11am in The Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapels located, 773 Moody Street WALTHAM, MA. Followed by a 12pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Parrish Belmont, MA. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery located, 990 La Grange Street, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, Jim requested that during this holiday time of year we all “do something to help someone in need”.
