Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Hazel

Robert "Bob" Hazel

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health. He was 77.

Born on September 14, 1944 in Waltham; son of the late Robert L. Hazel I and Irene (Farrell) Hazel. Bob was raised and educated in Waltham, having graduated from Waltham High School in 1962.

He resided in Waltham on Prospect Hill Rd. for 30 years, with his loving wife Carol Ann (Close) Hazel before moving to Framingham in 2001.

He had been employed as a Fleet Maintenance supervisor for P.B. Mutry, Lilly Truck leasing and eventually DATCO. He was a member of the Association of Fleet Maintenance Supervisors, Inc. in 1974. He served as president of that association for at least six years and then again for four years in the early 2000s. He received two honors from this group, The Man of the Year and The Joseph P. Maloney Award, both for outstanding dedication to the Association of Fleet Maintenance Supervisors and to furthering the goals of vehicle fleet maintenance.

Bob was a hardworking, generous man who valued his family above all else. He was known as a caring family man beloved by his children and all of their friends with whom he shared his generous nature and guidance. He was heavily involved in Waltham Youth sports coaching and guiding countless kids in multiple sports from Track & Field, Soccer and Skiing to name a few.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Ann (Close) Hazel, his devoted & loving children; Robert L. Hazel III and his wife Sara (Semple) Hazel of Moultonboro, New Hampshire; Christopher J. Hazel and his wife Jacquelyn (Pilla) Hazel of Derry, New Hampshire; Elizabeth (Hazel) Savage and her husband Michael P. Savage of Center Harbor, New Hampshire; In addition he is survived by 6 cherished grandchildren Mattie, Jack, Luke, Paige, Parker & Joey; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Family & Friends are welcome to gather, pay their respects and celebrate Bob's life during a ceremony in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Tuesday July 26th at 11:00 a.m..
