Obituary for Dr. Emelle Greer Nordquist ( Gay)

Emelle Greer Nordquist (Gay), 79 of Chicago, Illinois passed away on June 8th, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love and support of her loving children.

Born in Moultrie, Georgia on Sunday, October 18th, 1942 to the late Francis and Mildred Gay (Greer).

Known to many who loved and knew her dearly as Greer. She was caring, kind, and extremely hardworking, always putting the needs of others before her own. A nurturer at heart it was no surprise after serving in the United States Air Force that she would go into the Field of Nursing allowing her determination and her love of teaching to lead her to a true calling of Cancer Research. After obtaining her Ph.D. and working with The American College of Surgeons in Chicago, Illinois as a go-getter, she still found time to enjoy and live life.

Greer had a love for nature, animals, biking, and traveling especially to Rome, Italy which was one of her favorite places to visit. Her spare time was spent snuggled up with a good mystery book, or enjoying a movie on TMC.

Above All, Greer dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends. As a role model, she graciously persevered with great strength when faced with life’s adversities and lost no battle to cancer she victoriously transitioned to heaven when God called her leaving cancer defeated! Through every life she inspired, her students, through her years of research and every medical journal she made contributions to, and more importantly, everyone she loved until her last breath.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Harry Nordquist.

Greer is survived by her devoted and loving Children. Her son David Greer, of Waltham, MA., daughter Rachel Lyda of Houston, Texas, her grandson Aaron and granddaughter Abigail Hummell both of Waterford Works, NJ. Two sisters, Frances Beard of Atlanta, Ga., and Barbara Langston of Moultrie, Ga. A host of other family, friends, and Colleagues.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to gather and remember the love Greer shared during visiting hours on Thursday, June 16th from 11 am to 12 pm followed by a Celebration of her life in The Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapels located 773 Moody Street in Waltham, MA.
