Janice Marie (Feeley) Dougherty
Jan to her beloved husband, Allen "Dash" Dougherty and countless friends; Mom/Mumma to her (A for adorable, but K-letter named) six children, Kevin Dougherty, Kelly Naugler, Kerri Kennedy, Keith Dougherty, Kristin Maskalenko, Ken Dougherty, and adopted son, Lennox Chase); and Nanny Janny to her six sweetheart sons-in-laws (Don Naugler, Matt Kennedy, and Tom Maskalenko) and daughter-in-laws (Michelle Dougherty, Kendra Dougherty, and Bev Chase), 23 grandchildren and their spouses, six great grandchildren (with one on the way), godchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends of all of the above, who loved the character she was, passed peacefully in the presence of family members visiting with her at the Caring Bridge Hospice Home in Lincoln on Palm Sunday morning, April 10th, 2022 - just down the street from her husband’s family’s home in Lincoln where the family gathered for Easter Sunday celebrations for decades.
She was born October 14th, 1938; she was predeceased by her parents Rose (Feeley) Machold and Waltham Police Officer Charles "Fat" Feeley and her siblings Carol (Feeley) Romanelli and Gary Feeley,
With her limitless compassion, impeccably sharp wit and her classically trained contralto voice, she charmed neighbors and friends in her hometown of Waltham, where she grew up, and in Bedford, where she and Dash raised their family and lived on 312 Concord Road for forty-four years. A former Waltham High School Varsity Hockey Cheerleading Captain, she was an avid figure skater in her day.
You never saw her without her lipstick, clip-on earrings and perfectly coiffed hair (even when multiple bouts of cancer she faced with her trademark perseverance and positive attitude left her dependent on Paula Young Wigs for her hair stylings). She made people laugh, she had nanny-isms her family will be quoting her with for generations to come, and she loved fiercely. Nanny was a real person. Jan was not only a real person, but a miracle and legend for all the battles she triumphed on the battlefield of life. She was honest to a fault. We loved her and we miss her greatly already.
Our hearts are with Papa, her husband Dash Dougherty, who doted on her daily in their later years. “And ever has it been known that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation” - Kahlil Gibran.
We’ll meet again, we know where, we just don’t know when.
Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Jan's Life and remember the love and friendship she shared with others at a Funeral Service in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Wednesday morning April 13th at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.
Those who wish to pay their respects to Jan and her family can do so in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Tuesday April 12th from 6pm until 8pm. and again on Wednesday morning prior to the funeral service from 9am until 10:30 am.
