Obituary for John Richard Quinlan

John Richard Quinlan

Of Buzzards Bay, formerly of Waltham, passed away Monday July 5, 2021 at his residence at the age of 83. John was born on August 13, 1937. John, also known as Dickie or Whitey, was the son of the late Thomas P. and Alice (Benson) Quinlan.

He was a 1955 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Watertown; following high school John proudly served his country in the United States Army. John worked as a Lineman for Boston Edison for 40 years until he retired.

John enjoyed many things over his lifetime – mostly spending time with his family and friends, playing horseshoes, competing in Texas Holdem tournaments which one year took him to Las Vegas as a finalist, and following the Boston Red Sox. He loved to golf, playing at least three days a week all through retirement and was very proud of not just one but two hole in ones.

John is survived by his children: Richard J Quinlan and wife Sandra of Texas, Maryann Bonanno and husband Joseph of Waltham and Carolyn DiPaolo Gargone and husband Charles of Greenfield; sisters: the twins, Jeannette McCarthy and Jeraldine Faherty both of Framingham and Patricia Busconi of Watertown; grandchildren: Kristina, Patrick, Brandon, Julie, Emily, Maggie, Mario and Sara; great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Everli Quinn, as well as many nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended family who loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Thomas Quinlan and William Quinlan.

At John’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. So when with family, playing golf, playing cards or down along the Cape Cod Canal, think of John and know that those are his favorite memories.
