Obituary for Mary Irene Denty

DENTY, Mary Irene (Patriacca) of Plymouth, formerly of Newton & Waltham, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at home. She was 92.

Mary was born on March 24, 1929 in Newton, Massachusetts, one of 11 children of Louis and Maria (Persico) Patriacca. After graduating from Newton High School, Mary worked for a Boston law firm before marrying the love of her life, Edwin H. Denty on September 4, 1949 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Newton and settling down in Waltham. From 1950 through 1966 Mary welcomed 7 daughters and was devoted to her family, teaching them the importance of a good day’s work, self-reliance, and generosity of spirit. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking from scratch, making homemade jellies, pasta, and other creations, and somehow even found time working with her dear friend Avis Smith to bake and decorate wedding cakes for others. By managing the family finances with determination and keen instincts, Mary was able to purchase a second home in Plymouth’s Priscilla Beach neighborhood, affording her daughters carefree summers at the beach. Mary also shared her gifts with the community through numerous volunteer activities including teaching CCD classes, leading Parent Teacher Association & Girl Scout activities, and active participation in the Waltham Police Wives’ Association. Later, Mary worked at the Waltham District Court until her retirement in 1991, after which she moved full time to Priscilla Beach and enjoyed 30 wonderful years with family, friends, and neighbors. Mary also enjoyed traveling around the U.S.A and throughout the world, including family car trips to Nova Scotia, Washington, D.C. and many other locales, a Windjammer cruise around the British Virgin Islands, a cross country road trip, many winters in Boynton Beach, FL, and visits to California, Key West, Hawaii, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia.
