Obituary for Martha Taranto (Duddy)
Martha Taranto passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was 79.
Martha is survived by her devoted husband J. William (Bill) Taranto, and her three loving sons, William James and his wife Michele of Norwood, Christopher John and his wife Cynthia of Wells, ME, and James Walter and his wife Victoria of Waltham. Also survived by her grandson James Wesley, who has been her pride and joy for the past nine years. Martha loved attending James’ hockey and baseball games and lit up every time he entered the room.
Martha is survived by her siblings Mildred and Irl Sanders of Los Angeles, CA, Walter Duddy, Jr. of Belmont, Karen Duddy and Bill Tenbrunsel of Roanoke, VA, and David Duddy of Waltham. Martha was also very loved by her many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents Walter and Gladys Duddy, and her sister Joan Duddy and her husband Isaac Schambelan of New York.
Martha met her husband Bill when she was a teenager working as a waitress at the Ranch House, in Waltham. From that day forward, Martha’s name was never mentioned alone, it was always, where are ‘Martha and Bill,’ as they were inseparable for almost 6 decades. They enjoyed their summers at the Flaherty’s cottage in Mattapoisett and more recently just loved to be together doing simple things, like going for lunch or tea and scones at Verrill farms. And while she loved her sons, and grandson to pieces, she also found a place in her heart for her beloved dogs Bandit and Coco who were often found lounging comfortably on her lap.
Martha’s professional career began at Devlin Insurance Company in Waltham in the early 70s. She later became the office manager for Law Enforcement Equipment, also in Waltham, where she worked for 25 years until her recent retirement.
Martha never let a special occasion go by and anyone who knew her was likely the recipient of a personal note or card. Her compassion always made her family and friends feel special and loved. Never looking for any credit, Martha would always be there to help behind the scenes. She was a willing and nurturing mother figure to anyone who needed her.
Martha and Bill loved to entertain family and friends at the holidays and their hospitability created a lifetime of memories to share for all generations. Martha will be missed terribly but will always be with us in spirit. She was a truly great wife, mother, daughter, sister, and exceptional grandmother, but most importantly, a true and pure soul who loved everybody as much as they loved her.
No public services, however, donations are welcome in Martha’s memory to The Dementia Foundation.
