"SR. MARY ALEXIA, SMSM"
Of Waltham, peacefully entered eternal life in the loving arms of her God on Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 in the Marist Missionary Sisters Convent in Waltham at the age of 91.
Beloved daughter of the late Otto Streicher and Maria Herzberb.
Sr. Mary Alexia had 2 brothers and 3 sisters who are deceased. Sister has two nephews and six nieces, two of whom are Doctors in Germany.
Sister Alexia entered the Marist Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary on July 31, 1958. After three years of Religious Formation, Sister took her first Vows on March 9, 1961. After her Profession of Vows, Sister remained in Bedford, MA, giving community service.
Sister Alexia was missioned to Jamaica working at Hansen Home from 1962-1972. Her next mission assignment was to the Ivory Coast in Africa doing Nursing and Laboratory work from 1972-1981.
After a Spiritual Renewal, Sister was missioned to the Fiji Islands in the Pacific working at Twomey Hospital from 1982-1990. Sister Alexia then was transferred to the North American Province in 1991 and gave community service before going to Germany for her Home Visit and Studies.
In 1994, a new community was formed to work in East Germany and sister was one of the pioneers there. Sister worked there until 2010 when we closed this mission. On her return to United States, Sister joined the 62 Waltham community giving service once again. Sister added a new dimension to her work by creating beautiful candles for all occasions. Her work is displayed with other Sisters' work in the convent foyer.
Due to Covid 19, and out of genuine concern for those Sr. Alexia loved and cared for; the Marist Sisters will gather to celebrate Sr. Mary Alexia's life and remember the love she shared at a PRIVATE Funeral Service in the Marist Sisters Convent in Waltham. Her burial will follow at the Marist Missionary Sisters Lot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown.
