Marjorie R. (Phillips) Drew

Of Auburndale, passed away peacefully Thursday April 29th, 2021 with her loving family by her side at Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston at the age of 85.

Born on August 29, 1935 in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard; daughter of the late Arthur Phillips and Jessie (West) Phillips. Marjorie was raised in Cotuit and lived for most of her adult life in the Auburndale section of Newton, where she raised her family. She moved to Sudbury for 10 years before moving back to Newton several years ago.

A graduate of Barnstable High School; Marjorie graduated from Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse and had worked at various Boston Hospitals early on in her career. For a brief period she worked for the Raytheon Corporation, where she met her husband. The last 30 years of her career she worked as an RN. at Boston College’s Cushing clinic and Infirmary in a job that she loved.

Her life revolved around her family; she was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished the time spent with her family especially her grandchildren. They cherished the time with her and will miss her dearly.

In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, knitting and following all the Boston sports teams.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Alan Drew and her dear siblings Richard Phillips and Linda Minerd.

Marjorie is survived by her devoted & loving children Jeffrey Drew and his wife Irene of Coventry, RI; Amy Shih and her husband Venson of Framingham; and Allison Assencoa and her husband Scott of Natick; her cherished grandchildren Jessie and Georgie Drew; Sophie, Sam and Ruthie Assencoa; her dear sisters Gwen Phillips of Florida and Rowena Bradshaw and her husband Earl of Arizona; and her brother-in-law Michael Minerd of Newton. In addition she is survived by many nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.

Family & friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of Marjorie’s Life, to remember the love she shared with those she touched in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM this Wednesday morning, May 5th at 10:30 a.m.

Dear Drew Family -
I first became acquainted with your mom/grandma so many years ago when we both became engaged to two young men who
were part of a group of 8 friends from Newton - a group that endured thru the years. I greatly enjoyed any time that I got to
spend with Marge at our get-to-gathers. I can honestly say that she was one of the strongest, most accomplished, most down-to-earth friends I ever have had the pleasure to know. She will be missed terribly. Please know that you all are in my prayers.

I have so many fond memories of Mrs. Drew. Amy, I will never forget all the good times in your home, especially your mom’s American Chop Suey—it was the best! She was such a kind and generous person who always made me feel welcomed in your home. May she Rest In Peace.

In Sympathy,
Rachel Sabbag Reynolds

Drew family Your mom/grandmother holds a special place in my heart. She was truly like another mom, always there with a welcoming smile, a big hug or one of her famous, and dare I say radical, fluffernutter sandwiches (she MIXED the peanut butter and fluff!). She never minded gaggles of loud, hungry, active kids traipsing through the house. And she was the resident nurse for all scrapes, bumps, tummy aches etc. She was so strong in so many ways both after the loss of her dear husband and in later life as she dealt with health issues. She was a special lady and will be missed by many. Love Kristin
