Obituary for Nancy Leah Aucoin (McGirr)

Nancy Leah (McGirr) Aucoin, 89, of Marlboro, formerly of Brewster and Waltham, passed away Monday, March 15th, after a period of declining health.

Beloved wife of the late Wilfred Gerard (Gerry) Aucoin with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Susan Jakubaszek (Richard) of Hudson and David Aucoin of Waltham. She is survived by her sister Jane Mayo of Orleans, and many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Waltham, she was the daughter of Robert G. McGirr and Elsie (Sallstrom) Philpott. She was a graduate of the Class of 1949 of Waltham High School. At the time of her retirement, she was employed as an office manager and bookkeeper at Fab-Braze Corporation in Waltham.

As a young mother, Nancy was an active member of the Banks School PTA and a member of the Waltham Junior Women’s Club.

Nancy was a talented landscape gardener who spent hours tending to her outdoor surroundings, creating visually pleasing planting areas and curbside rhododendron borders. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed the challenges of tackling the daily crossword puzzles in The Boston Globe. In retirement she tried her hand at basket making, crafting multiple Nantucket baskets, which were her favorite. She also took painting classes, with a preference for watercolors.

Nancy was predeceased by her son, Robert G. Aucoin, and her siblings Richard Wehage, Frederick Wehage and William McGirr.

For the safety of those we love and care about during this difficult time, all services will be private. A memorial service to honor Nancy’s life will be held in the near future, with date and place to be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Brasco & Son, Waltham.
