Obituary

Lawrence "Laurie" W. Quinn Sr.

Of Auburndale, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 83 early Saturday morning December 19th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

Laurie was born on February 27, 1937 in Newton, son of the late Timothy James Quinn and Catherine Lucy (Doucette) Quinn. Laurie was raised in Newton, where he resided for the majority of his life raising his family with his wife, Janis A. (Giroux) Quinn.

A graduate of Hale High School in Stow, MA., he dedicated his life to his family and his work. Laurie owned and operated Lawrence Quinn trucking, working along side his sons. Primarily working in the City of Newton, he paved side walks, roads, and athletic courts throughout the city and plowed the streets during the winter months. You could also find him working down at the garage, maintaining equipment, fixing family and friends cars or having coffee with his friends. His proudest accomplishment was his eight children and seventeen grandchildren. He cherished the tradition of Sunday dinners at the Farm in Stow which he continued for his growing family at his home in Newton with his wife.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Janis A. (Giroux) Quinn; his devoted & loving children Lawrence "Laurie" Quinn Jr. of Natick; Brian Quinn of Dedham; Deborah Meincke of Westwood; James Quinn and his wife Margaret of Waltham; Susan Berube and her husband Dennis of Newton; Kristin Mariano and her husband Ottavio of Newton; Douglas Quinn and his wife Janet of Newton; and David Quinn and his wife Maura of Scituate; his dear siblings Norma Mackay of Billerica; Janet Shanshiry of Westwood; John "Jake" Quinn Sr. of Maynard and Stephen Quinn of Berlin. In addition, he is survived by 17 cherished grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family who will miss him dearly.

He was predeceased by his dear siblings Sr. Mary Ann Quinn, Timothy Quinn Jr., Joseph Quinn, Edward Quinn, Bevan Quinn, Robert Quinn and Charles "Dickie" Quinn.

For the safety of those we love and care about during this difficult time, and for those who wish to pay their respects to the family can do so in accordance with CDC, Federal, State and Local guidelines in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham, during Visiting Hours on Tuesday December 22nd from 4 - 8 p.m.

Following the Archdiocese of Boston guidelines, family & friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Laurie's life and remember the love he shared with others at a Funeral Mass at Our Lady Help of Christian Church, 527 Washington Street, Newton on Wednesday December 23rd at 12 noon followed by his burial at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Good Shepherd Community Care, 90 Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459.

My sincere condolences go out to the family of Lawrence Quinn, who I knew as Laurie. The family moved back to Stow for a period of time and it was my good fortune to have Laurie in my class. We graduated together in 1955 from Hale High School. He was a great friend. I have memories of Saturday night visits to the garage, New Years parties at the home of Don and Judy Scraggs and waiting for Laurie and Janis to arrive at a class reunion. It was an honor to have known this man.
