Obituary for Aldo Michael Carretta
Aldo M. Carretta passed away peacefully in the early afternoon on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the age of 66.
Aldo was born on January 25, 1954 in Waltham, MA to the late Francesco “Frank” and Maria Carretta (Italy/Waltham). He was raised in Waltham, graduating from Waltham Vocational High School in 1972 where he began his passion for computer engineering.
Upon graduating from high school, he immediately started his 45+ year career at Digital Equipment Corp which eventually became Hewlett-Packard. While working at the same company for many decades, he became a self-proclaimed “Mr. Fix-It” and built life-long friendships.
He moved to Medway in 1986 where his three children were raised and attended school and resided in Bolton for a period of time before moving back to Waltham.
Some of Aldo’s most treasured memories were taking his three children on their annual summer Cape Cod trips in the ‘90s with daily trips to the beach, arcade, and candy store. In his later years, he greatly enjoyed riding horses through the apple orchards while being chased by his wild dog Beau, near his home in Bolton which he shared with his companion Liz.
A lifelong audiophile, he was an avid fan of live music, with a particular fondness for Blues and Classic Rock, attending countless concerts over the years. At concerts, he could always be found bopping his head and plugging his ears with his fingers to “drown out the white noise and really hear the music.” Aldo’s life-long love of music was reflected in his massive collection of vinyl records, turntables, amplifiers, and speakers, many of which he built and modified himself.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Liz Melanson; three children, Michael Carretta and wife Amanda (Medway), Andrew Carretta and wife Meghan (Burlington) and Jill Cronin and husband Jonathan (Franklin); older sister Natalina Monaco and husband Vincenzo (Clinton) and younger brother Enio Carretta (Waltham); former spouse, Betsy Carretta (Medway); nephews Nicky Monaco and wife Lauri (New Hampshire), Tony Monaco and wife Laura (Framingham), Tyler Carretta (Waltham) and nieces Mary Sylvanowicz and husband Jason (Maine) and Tina Carvelli and husband Stephen (Clinton). He is also survived by his five adoring grandchildren, Evan, Ryan, Julia, J.J. and Evelyn.
Close friends and family are invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Aldo’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM this Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 12:30p.m. A private burial will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
For the safety of those we love and care about during this difficult time, and for those who wish to pay their respects to Aldo and his family can do so in accordance with CDC, Federal and State guidelines during Visiting Hours prior to the services on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Due to the on-going pandemic, we ask that friends please be mindful and respectful of current limitations in regard to social gatherings.
