Obituary for Douangchanh Chanthaseng

Douangchanh "Captain" Chanthaseng, a life-long resident of Waltham, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the age of 73 at Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by his beloved daughters and his wise companion Yoda. Yes, the Jedi Master.

For the past six years, Douangchanh has resided at the VNA in Somerville, MA under the meticulous care of the nurses, care practitioners, professionals and aids who have been amazingly supportive in his continued personal care is an extension of our family. We are grateful for their unwavering support and love. Our VNA family, as a whole inspired Doungchanh's mental and physical well-being. Each day was a gift to share smiles, walks, puzzles, book clubs and exercise companions. It was certainly a community effort.

Once boisterous and charismatic in his prime years having never shied away from making any crowded room brighten up with his self-assured smile, Douangchanh, a gentle soul loved to laugh, joke, tinker and share hugs.
Douangchanh is survived by his four beautiful lovely daughters, Pam, Sou, Viannah and Gail; son Thong & Family, The Chanthaseng nieces and nephews representing Lowell and Chanthaseng Family in Florida, Texas, Laos, Thailand and France.

With a strong resolve to challenge himself and achieve the unknown, Douangchanh born in Vientiane, Laos immigrated to the United States to pursue his dreams. Douangchanh was a true professional as a skilled and intuitive technician, passionate foodie, tremendous friend, trusted colleague and avid fisherman. The sea and ocean waves were always close to his heart.

He continued to share his gifts as an amateur artist drawing and painting landscapes and animals. Douangchanh was a spiritual man and loved each waking day knowing that his children encompassed him with unconditional love.

Most of all, he is a devoted and beloved single father who placed family values and happiness above all else. His four daughters were the most important part of his life and legacy.

In this challenging time with the pandemic, we recognize this as a phenomenal opportunity to come together. We will try to do the best we can in the absence of our guiding light.

He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Continue to be kind, inspired and share in loving one another.

Due to Covid 19 and out of genuine concern for those we love and care deeply about during this difficult time throughout the world and in our community family & friends will gather to celebrate Douangchanh life and remember the love he shared with those he touched in accordance with CDC, Federal and State guidelines in a wake, memorial, Buddhist blessing and funeral service scheduled for 1:00PM - 2:30PM ET (ONLY) on August 31, 2020 at Brasco & Sons Mary Catherine Chapel Waltham, MA. followed by the crematory procession at Blue Hill Crematory Braintree, MA.
