Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Monday evening October 26th, 2020 at the Meadow Green Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waltham at the age of 84.
Born on January 13, 1936 in Waltham; son of the late Earl Bowlby and Elizabeth (Leger) Bowlby; Skippy was raised and educated in Waltham and has been a lifelong resident.
A graduate of Waltham High School with the Class of 1956; Skippy was employed as the night time General Grocery Manager at the former Waltham Supermarket and retired from Shaw's Supermarket after 40 years.
Raymond served proudly and honorably with the United States Army during the end of the Korean War. He was a longtime active and devoted member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post #156 in Waltham. He helped run bingo at the club for years.
He married his beautiful wife and the love of his life Janie in 1958.
His life revolved around his family, he spent his life caring and providing for everyone. He was kind, caring, generous in many ways and always giving of himself to help others. He had a love for the outdoors and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Mary Jane "Janie" (Smith) Bowlby; his loving & devoted children Cheryl A. Seymour and her husband Lloyd of Leominster; Wayne Bowlby and his wife Sharon of Safety Harbor, FL; Michelle Schiavo and her husband William of Woonsocket, RI; Shawn Bowlby of Waltham and the late Timothy Bowlby and his wife Annette of Billerica; his cherished grandchildren Brian, Kevin, Aaron, Matthew, Jesse, and Nicholas; his adoring great grandchildren Ethan, Emma, Elyse, Emily, Addison, Rylynn, Owen, soon to be Christian as well as his great grand-pup Sully; and his dear brothers Ronald Bowlby of Waltham and Richard Bowlby of Quincy. In addition he is survived by many nieces & nephews.

Due to the current spike in Covid-19 and for the safety of those we love and care about during this difficult time, relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours in accordance with CDC, Federal, State and local guidelines in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Friday Oct. 30th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A Funeral Service in celebration of Raymond's Life will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel on Friday Oct. 30th at 12:00 p.m. Services will conclude with United States Army Military Honors in recognition of Raymond's faithful and honorable service to our country.
