Of Waltham, peacefully entered eternal life in the loving arms of her God on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020 at Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham at the age of 86.

Sister was born on September 20, 1933 in Ossian, Iowa; beloved daughter of the late John Joseph Aloysius Hemesath and Lola Anastasia Marie (Scheidemantal) Hemesath.

Sister Mary Tekawitha entered the Marist Missionary Sisters in Bedford, Massachusetts on July 31, 1951. Sister took her first Vows on February 2, 1954 and her final Vows on February 2, 1960.

After her first Profession, Sister was on staff at the Postulate in Lowell, Massachusetts, until she began her studies at Framingham Sate University in 1955, majoring in Home Economics. Sister received her degree in 1959 and received her mission destination to Samoa in November 1969, where she taught until 1963.

Sister returned to the United States in 1964 giving community service until 1971 when she was missioned to Jamaica in 1972 through 1989. Sister came back to the United States in 1990 to give community service in our then Lexington house and at “62” Newton St. in Waltham.

Sister did some Hispanic ministry in Lawrence and Arlington during 1997- 2000.

Once again, Sister was missioned in 2001 until 2008 to Jamaica. She returned in 2008 to Waltham where she gave community service in the sewing and food service departments.

Sister’s recurring cancer, vision loss, and general failing health necessitated her moving to Marillac Assisted Living Facility of Wellesley Hills in 2017 to the Memory Loss Unit.

Sister is survived by her dear siblings Greg, Carl and Colette; and her loving & devoted Community of Marist Missionary Sisters.

She was preceded in death by her dear siblings Jack, Irma, Elsie and Bernice

Due to COVID-19 and out of genuine concern for those that Sr. Germaine loved and cared so deeply for; the Marist Sisters will gather to celebrate Sister Germaine's life and remember the loved she shared at a private Graveside Funeral Service in the Marist Missionary Sisters Lot at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the: Marist Missionary Sisters 349 Grove St., Waltham, MA 02453.

The Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels of WALTHAM assisted the Marist Missionary Sisters with arrangements.
