Obituary

Sonya R. Lavoie (Coleron)

Of Waltham, passed away Wednesday evening April 29, 2020 at the Meadowgreen Nursing and Rehabilitation facility after complications from the COVID-19 virus at the age of 86.

Born on November 25, 1933 in Newton; Daughter of the late Henry C. and Fannie L. Coleron, sister to the late Robert A Coleron, Sonya was raised in Newton, and spent most of her adult life raising her five children in Waltham.

A graduate of Newton High School she furthered her education at Fisher College. She was employed by Metropolitan State Hospital for many years as the administrator’s assistant until its closing. She continued to work in the mental health field at Riverside Day Treatment in Newton until her retirement in 2014.

She was the organist at the Fernald Chapel with Fr. Bill Leonard for whom she followed to St Jude’s Parish. After close to 16 years as an accomplished organist at Saint Jude Parish she retired due to declining health.

In her spare time, Sonya enjoyed spending time with her family, trips with the senior center, dining with friends, and playing bingo.

She is survived by her five Children, Sandra Cirello and her husband Charles, Susan Higgins and her partner Steve Denault, Donna Ellis and her husband Rocky, Richard Lavoie and his wife Linda, and her Daughter Wendy and her husband Ralph. Ten Grandchildren and Thirteen Great-Grandchildren as well as many dear and close friends.

Out of genuine concern for those we love and care deeply about during this difficult time throughout the world and our community burial will be private. A Memorial Mass in celebration of Sonya’s Life will be held at a future date.

To the Lavoie family. I am sorry just to hear of your mom's passing. She was a great mom and neighbor to all of us Kings at the projects. I hope you take comfort knowing that she is smiling down from the heavens.

I am very sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I will always remember her as a kind and caring person. When growning up she was like a second mom to the cutlers. May she rest in peace
