Eleanor “Ellie” Teeven 91
Of Waltham died on April 19, 2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital of complications from covid- 19.
Ellie was born on October 14, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA and is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Rosemary (nee Bliss) Canty and brother Stuart Carroll, all of Philadelphia, PA.
Ellie is survived by five daughters with her husband of 29 years, the late Jerome F. Teeven of Waltham; Martha (John) Zawadzki of Plymouth, Diane (Thomas) Ryberg of Milton, Nancy (David) LaRoche of Waltham, Rosemary Teeven of Hoboken, NJ, and Catherine (Christopher) Hall of Mason, OH. Ellie is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Heather Zawadzki, Brian Zawadzki, Christopher Ryberg, Melissa Morrissey, Michael Ryberg, Ashlee Sherman, Kathryn Cardarelli, Jill LaRoche, Ellie Giovanetti, Donato Giovanetti and Mary Hall, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ellie devoted her life to God and her family. She was an active member of Our Lady’s Catholic Church in Waltham, St. Brigid’s of Lexington and finally Sacred Heart of Waltham. Ellie was a talented seamstress and often outfitted her young daughters with her beautiful handiwork. She worked many years at the Waltham Hospital both as a medical secretary and in the library. Ellie’s sense of adventure and curiosity were strong to the end of her life and she was fortunate to travel the world in her retirement. It was always the people she met on these adventures that made the greatest impression on her. Her photos were just as likely to be of a baby she had seen as a famous monument. Ellie lived at Traditions of Wayland assisted living from 2013 to 2019 where she stayed active and made many friends. Her ready smile, fun-loving nature, concern and compassion for others and robust sense of humor endeared her to so many throughout her long life. Ellie never missed an opportunity to pay a complement or notice a gesture of kindness, no matter how small, that might have otherwise gone unseen. God’s love burned brightly within her and she was happiest when she was sharing that light with the world.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Eleanor’s Life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, WALTHAM on WEDNESDAY morning JUNE 24th at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne.
