Eleanor “Ellie” Teeven 91

Of Waltham died on April 19, 2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital of complications from covid- 19.

Ellie was born on October 14, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA and is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Rosemary (nee Bliss) Canty and brother Stuart Carroll, all of Philadelphia, PA.

Ellie is survived by five daughters with her husband of 29 years, the late Jerome F. Teeven of Waltham; Martha (John) Zawadzki of Plymouth, Diane (Thomas) Ryberg of Milton, Nancy (David) LaRoche of Waltham, Rosemary Teeven of Hoboken, NJ, and Catherine (Christopher) Hall of Mason, OH. Ellie is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Heather Zawadzki, Brian Zawadzki, Christopher Ryberg, Melissa Morrissey, Michael Ryberg, Ashlee Sherman, Kathryn Cardarelli, Jill LaRoche, Ellie Giovanetti, Donato Giovanetti and Mary Hall, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ellie devoted her life to God and her family. She was an active member of Our Lady’s Catholic Church in Waltham, St. Brigid’s of Lexington and finally Sacred Heart of Waltham. Ellie was a talented seamstress and often outfitted her young daughters with her beautiful handiwork. She worked many years at the Waltham Hospital both as a medical secretary and in the library. Ellie’s sense of adventure and curiosity were strong to the end of her life and she was fortunate to travel the world in her retirement. It was always the people she met on these adventures that made the greatest impression on her. Her photos were just as likely to be of a baby she had seen as a famous monument. Ellie lived at Traditions of Wayland assisted living from 2013 to 2019 where she stayed active and made many friends. Her ready smile, fun-loving nature, concern and compassion for others and robust sense of humor endeared her to so many throughout her long life. Ellie never missed an opportunity to pay a complement or notice a gesture of kindness, no matter how small, that might have otherwise gone unseen. God’s love burned brightly within her and she was happiest when she was sharing that light with the world.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Eleanor’s Life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, WALTHAM on WEDNESDAY morning JUNE 24th at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne.

For the safety of those we love and care about during this difficult time, and for those who wish to attend can do so in accordance with the Archdiocese of Boston, CDC, Federal and State guidelines.

To Rosemary, Cathy and all of the Teeven Clan from The Faherty Family
Thank you so much for arranging to bring Ellie to my Mom's 80th Birthday. That was such a wonderful day for the two of them. My Mom couldn't have been happier being surrounded by family and was so surprised and thrilled to have Ellie with her too. I was very young when we left Lakeview and only knew of their friendship through the stories my Mom shared over the years. Ellie truly brought a lot of joy and happiness to her life and she will be greatly missed. We wish you all strength and peace during such a difficult time made more difficult by the current world circumstances. God Bless you Mom and all of you.

My Mom (Mary Faherty) was very sad to learn of Ellie's passing, but she has so many fond memories:
"Ellie was the first neighbor to greet us when we moved to Maravista Ave with our 3 small children. She sent all the girls up to welcome me and Martha who was about 12 offered to do all my ironing! She was such an amazing seamstress and all of her girls were dressed beautifully in handmade garments and coats. She was thrilled when I took a sewing class. I made a beautiful gold tweed jumper and brought it down to her for her approval after I had it all cut out. She showed me a few small mistakes and it came out perfect! I was so sad to leave that neighborhood because she was the best neighbor and friend anyone could ask for. We remained in touch over the years meeting for lunch. I remember when she drove her car for the last time and sold it. I visited her a few times at Traditions and I had been meaning to call in the last few years, but my husband was very sick and needed my full attention, and then I was grieving his loss. I am so happy she came to my 80th Surprise Birthday celebration just a few years ago! My brother and sister-in-law enjoyed her company and commented on how lucky I was to have such a great friend. I dreamt of her just 2 nights ago. I will always cherish the many happy memories I have of a good friend, a best friend really."

Such beautiful words and precious memories of life up on the hill. My Mom and the entire Teeven family loved the Fahertys as well. We never missed the Jordan Marsh Enchanted Village!! Much love to all of the Fahertys xoxo

Well this was full circle.. To my wonderful Teevan family I so thoroughly enjoyed being with your mom so much and talking about 1964 and up. I think at times she helped me out more as she remembered so much of Trimount Ave and my parents. It was so much fun. I'm also praying deep down that our little "Boopsi" greeted Ellie somewhere. Remember Clare she was a 'Gibon" ape... I will miss seeing you all. Know your mom was loved xoxox

Thank you Clare - We can't thank you enough for the special attention and care you gave to our mother in her final days - we couldn't be there but took great comfort in knowing you were with her - and she loved you!! xoxoxo
