Sr. Jeannette Bordes "Sister Mary Damiana SMSM"

Of Waltham, entered eternal rest & peace in the loving arms of her God on Monday December 2nd, 2019 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley at the age of 93.

Beloved daughter of the late Ernest J. Bordes and Fernande (Goval) Bordes.

Sister Mary Damiana was born on July 18, 1926 in Woonsocket, R.I. into a family of 2 boys and 8 girls. Her brother, Ernest and sister, Madeline (Delker) have pre-deceased her. Her brother, Gilbert, and sisters, Lilianne (Rainville), Charlotte (LeBlanc), Claudette (Piette), Sr. Laetitia, H.H. (Marcelle), Henriette (Andrade) and Michelle (Kingveil) are living in the various areas of the USA.

Sister Mary Damiana entered the Marist Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary on July 31, 1947 in Bedford, MA. and took her first Vows on February 2, 1950 in Bedford. Sister has had a varied career as a student, teacher, Photographer, cook and caretaker.

Her teaching career brought her teaching in St. William’s School in Dorchester, MA. and St. Patrick’s School in Watertown, MA and in Memphis, TN as well as tutorial work in Waltham.

Sister was gifted in relating to young children and in making them feel secure, loved and wanting to learn new things. Sister continued to teach well into 2008.

Sister Mary Damiana was also gifted in preparing photographs and the life history of many of her Marist Sisters for their Jubilees as well as their funerals.

In 2015, after a fall and fracturing her hip, Sister Mary Damiana moved from Marillac Assisted Living facility in Wellesley, MA to Elizabeth Seton Residence Wellesley, MA for rehabilitation.

Sister leaves her brother and sister mentioned above, as well as nieces and nephews and many friends, relatives and her devoted & loving community of Marist Missionary Sisters.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of the Resurrection in celebration of Sister Jeannette's Life at the Marist Missionary Sisters Residence, 62 Newton St, Waltham on MONDAY morning December 9th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Marist Missionary Sisters Lot at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown. Visiting Hours as well as the Rosary and sharing of her life will begin at 9:00 am followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30.
