Lawrence G. Altrich passed away peacefully at Maristhill Nursing Home on November 16, 2019.
He was born in Donnelly, Minnesota to Mary and Leo Altrich and grew up on his family farm where they endured the great depression and dust bowl years.
After graduating from high school he attended and graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the Navy destroyer USS Laub DD-613 from 1942-1945. On May 23, 1944 his ship was hit accidentally by the U.S. Navy Cruiser USS Philadelphia off the coast of Anzio, Italy, causing major damage. His ship was towed from Italy to the Boston Shipyard for repairs, which took many months. During that time he met and married his beloved wife, Doris. They were married for 70 years.
He was truly a member of "The Greatest Generation". He owned and operated Tech Fab Industries, a precision sheet metal shop, for 30 years before retiring.
Lawrence was predeceased by his wife, Doris L. (Belliveau) Altrich; his sons Daniel L. Altrich and Gerald L. Altrich; his brother Joseph Altrich and sister Louise Holland, both of Donnelly, Minnesota; and his sister Marie Quale of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He is survived by his daughter Suzanne Ranger of Waltham; his son Lawrence W. Altrich of Plymouth; 8 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was a kind and gentle man, devoted husband and father, and was loved by his family and everyone who ever knew him.
