Sr. Miriam Cripps "Sr. Francis Miriam SMSM"

Of Waltham, entered eternal rest & peace in the loving arms of her God on Thursday August 8th, 2019 in the Newton - Wellesley Hospital at the age of 86.

Sister Miriam was born in Framingham, MA. on July 14, 1933; beloved daughter to the late Alvin and Pearl (Thying) Cripps.

Sister entered the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary "Marist" on September 8, 1963 and after two and a half years of training, Sister took her 1st Vows on March 9, 1966. Sister Miriam’s first mission assignment was to Samoa in the South Pacific where she taught from 1968-1975. Sister was called to Rome to work in the General Financial office of the congregation from 1975-1981.

Sister Miriam returned to Waltham, MA. in 1981 to work in the Finance Department of Maristhill Nursing Home through 1984.

She later attended Assumption College in Worcester, MA. working for her Masters in Religious studies and then was assigned to Brooklyn, New York; teaching through 1994.

Sister Miriam set out once again, this time to Jamaica in June of 1994 till 1996 where she taught Religious Education in Montego Bay.

Due to medical needs, Sister returned to Waltham, Massachusetts where she gave much of her time in Finance and Immigration Administration. Sister continued to teach at the local parish Church in Religious Education. In 2005, Sr. Miriam began having difficulty with her heart, as well as her diabetes and needed surgery. After some recuperation, Sister returned to working in Finances and Immigration. Gradually, her health deteriorated and after several falls, Sister Miriam decided to pass her work on to others in the office and to work from home.

In July of 2019, after attending a Regional Assembly, Sr. Mariam moved to Marillac Assisted Living in Wellesley, Massachusetts. In less than a week there, Sr. Miriam had a fall. Not thinking it was serious, Sr. Miriam did not mention it for several days. She began to have the effects of internal bleeding in the brain and had to be brought to Newton Wellesley Hospital where she died on Thursday. Aug. 8, 2019.

Sister Miriam leaves her only sibling, Elaine Henson of Florida as well as many friends, and her devoted & loving community of Marist Missionary Sisters.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of the Resurrection in celebration of Sister Miriam's Life at the Marist Missionary Sisters Residence, 62 Newton St, Waltham on WEDNESDAY morning August 14th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Marist Missionary Sisters Lot at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown. Visiting Hours as well as the Rosary and sharing of her life will begin at 8:30 am followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30.
