Obituary for Peter Anthony Tortorella

Peter A. Tortorella of Waltham, passed away Wednesday night, April 3, 2019 at the Maristhill Nursing and rehabilitation center in Waltham. He was 91.

Born in Watertown to the late Antonio and Carmela (Mancuso) Tortorella, he was a lifelong resident of Waltham.

After graduating from Waltham Vocational High School at the age of 16, he went into the Merchant Marines. Peter served honorably as a Merchant Marine during World War II in Venezuela on an oil tanker and helped to rebuild nations that were shattered by the war.

After serving as a Merchant Marine, Peter owned and operated Peter’s Trucking for many years. While working in the trucking industry, Peter also had a job with Macy's Furniture in Cambridge. He eventually purchased and operated the furniture business for many years.

Peter had many interests and enjoyed spending time with his family. One of his favorite past times was traveling. He enjoyed many summers in York Beach, ME with his children and his winters in Florida. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends, taking cruises and visiting the island of Aruba.

He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (D’Alanno) Tortorella for forty-seven years, devoted father of the late Patricia M. Corcoran, and brother of the late Charles Tortorella, Margaret Cerulo, Rose Sangermano, Josephine Pisani, Mary Orifice, Annette Gentile, and Lena Tortorella.

He is survived by his loving children Camille Sacco and her husband Leo of Oxford, Mary Ann Parrella and her husband Robert of Rehoboth and his son-in-law John “Jack” Corcoran III of Waltham. He also leaves behind his nine grandchildren Bryan Sacco, Thomas Sacco, Wendi O’Neill, Melisa Parrella Johnson, Melanie Parrella Holt, Michael Parrella, Robert Parrella, Peter A. Corcoran, and John A. Corcoran IV, and his nine great-grandchildren Leo, Luke, Ben, Clara, Henry, James, Preston, Robert and Tess, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from Brasco & Sons Memorial, 325 Trapelo Rd., BELMONT, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Peter’s life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Watertown. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-8 pm. Parking attendants will be on duty.
