Obituary for Sr. Patricia Ann "Mary Aaron SMSM" Burke

Born on November 9, 1930 in Cambridge; beloved daughter of the late Lawrence Frances Burke born in Galway, Ireland and Katherine McDevitt born in Londonderry, Ireland.

Sister Patricia was predeceased by her only sibling, her dear brother Lawrence Burke.

Sr. Patricia entered the Marist Missionary Sisters on Sept. 8, 1960 after she had been a graduate Nurse from St. Margaret Hospital in Dorchester, MA. and had practiced as a Visiting Nurse.

Sister made her 1st Religious Profession on March 9, 1963 and made her Final Profession in Peru on March 9, 1969.

Sister Patricia attended Duquesne University from 1964-1966 and received her MA in Psychology. Her first mission assignment was to Peru in October of 1966 where she worked in various mission communities until her next assignment to Rome in 1971.

Sister was elected on the General Council of the Congregation and worked in this capacity until 1980.

Sister Patricia returned to the United States for her home visit and remained, giving community service in the North American Province. Sister worked in Parish Ministry in Winchester, MA from 1985-1995 before going to Huntington, W. Virginia to be Parish Coordinator from July 1996 through 1999. Sister returned North in 2000 living in Arlington, MA. She became a member of the Provincial Council until 2002. Her next assignment was San Leandro, California from 2002-2004. When Sister returned to Massachusetts, she worked in Parish Ministry in Winchester at St. Mary’s Church until 2010.

She gave community service at our “62” community in Waltham from 2011-2013 when she moved to Marillac Assisted Living in Wellesley due to her failing health.

During her life time, Sr. Patricia became a good photographer as well as artist. She loved painting at her easel.

Sister Patricia leaves her cherished nieces and nephews, friends, and her devoted & loving community of Marist Missionary Sisters.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of the Resurrection in celebration of Sister Patricia 's Life at the Marist Missionary Sisters Residence, 62 Newton St, Waltham on Thursday morning March 14th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Marist Missionary Sisters Lot at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown. Visiting Hours will be held prior to the Funeral Mass in The Marist Sisters Residence on Thursday morning from 9:00 -10:30 am.
