Mary Frances Martines Lentine, daughter of Margaret and William Martines, was born on November 14, 1920, in Somerville, Massachusetts. Soon after she moved to Bedford, where she graduated from Lexington High School.
She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Blue Ribbon Dairy, owned by her father and brothers, until marrying her beloved husband, Anthony Lentine, on March 24, 1940 at St. Michael’s Church in Bedford. During World War II, she was instrumental in keeping the family-owned dairy from closing while her husband and brothers were serving our country.
Mary and her family moved to Woburn 55 years ago to her husband’s childhood home. There they owned and operated Lentine’s Variety Store on Montvale Avenue.
Mary was wonderful and well-loved mother, grandmother, and aunt. Family was her mission and life’s devotion, and she was a pillar within the Martines, Lentine, and Ricciardelli families. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Glenn Dunnington; her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Joan Lentine; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving Mary is her brother Frank Martines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Lentine (2001), brother William Martines (2009), sister Alice Sullivan (2016), and beloved youngest son William Lentine in 2016.
Most of Mary’s travels involved visits to her grandchildren, to whom she was very devoted. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her—in addition to her immediate family—many nieces and nephews; 13 godchildren; and all of her friends.
It was Mary’s wish that any donations in her memory be sent to St. Barbara Parish, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, MA 01801.
