Eleanor J. (Defina) Vanaria

Of Waltham passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 94.

Born and raised in Waltham to the late Isidore and Angela (Cappadona) Defina, she was a lifelong resident of Waltham and a graduate of Waltham High School.

Mrs. Vanaria worked at Valley’s Restaurant in Newton for over 15 years as a head waitress and would also train other waitresses, she also worked as a receptionist for ADP, and as a lunch mom for the Newton Public School System.

Eleanor was a Member of the Waltham Sons of Italy, Regina Margherita Di Savoia Lodge, and a member of the Filicudi Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing. She was an adult ballroom dance instructor at the Waltham High School.

She was the Beloved wife of the late Bartolo Vanaria, mother of the late Larry Vanaria, and Baby John Vanaria, and sister of the late Stephen and Albert Defina.

She is survived by her loving children Roland Vanaria and his companion Lek of Hopkinton, Donald Vanaria and his wife Barbara of Rhode Island, and Eleanor “Ellie” Vanaria and her companion Tom Hylander of Waltham, and her cherished grandchildren Laura, Larry, and Allesa.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of Eleanor's life at the Marry Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons , 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, Friday, January 18, 2019 at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10 am to 12 noon. Parking attendants will be on duty.
