James A. Foley Jr.

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning December 30th, 2018 in his home with his loving family by his side at the age of 84. He joins his beloved wife and best friend of 58 years in eternal life just 6 months after her passing in June.

Born on April 27, 1934 in Boston; son of the late James A. Foley Sr. and Mary (Tenney) Foley, Jim was raised in the Dorchester section of Boston moving to Belmont at a young age and then to Waltham after his marriage and has been a resident ever since.

Jim attended Belmont Public Schools and after returning from service in Korea, he furthered his education at Boston College. He was employed as an Insurance Underwriter throughout his life.

Jim proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a past member of the John M. Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post (V.F.W.) #10034 in Waltham; which was named after his late brother-in-law. He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

He had a strong faith in God and was a devoted and faithful member of Our Lady Parish community in Waltham; he served as an Usher and Acolyte for years.

In his spare time Jim enjoyed writing letters, was a passionate and diehard Boston sports fan especially for the Boston Bruins.

Jim was the beloved husband for 58 years to the late Jean (Sullivan) Foley.

He is survived by his devoted & loving children Jeanie Foley-Kass of Waltham and James Foley of Waltham, his cherished grandchildren Benjamin Kass of Waltham, and Julia Kass of New Hampshire. In addition he is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dear father-in-law of the late William Kass and brother of the late Helen Gamber and Mary Mackey.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of James’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Monday morning Jan. 7th at 12:00 p.m. Interment with United States Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Monday prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
