Obituary for George Francis "Big George" Sacca
Of Winthrop, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon December 6th, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett at the age of 84.
Mr. Sacca was born in Belmont, Massachusetts on March 19, 1934. He was the cherished son of the late John Sacca and Dorothy (Boucher) Sacca; George was raised in Belmont and lived for most of his life until moving to Winthrop 24 years ago.
George, a Korean War veteran, was a proud member of the United States Navy from 1951 until honorably discharged in 1957. After his service, he belonged to the local VFW Post in Winthrop.
He diligently worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 40 years with the Local #4 Union. When he wasn’t working, George could be found tending to his garden in the backyard. Most importantly, he loved his family, and friends, most especially young children. He enjoyed cooking, he had a green-thumb and took great pride in gardening and he loved working with his hands.
Mr. Sacca is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Katharine M. (Tower) Sacca, devoted & loving father of: George F. Sacca Jr. of Chicago, John Sacca of Chicago, Michael Sacca and his wife Jean (Castagno) Sacca of Northbridge, Dean Sacca of Watertown, his step-children Glenn DeJulio of North Carolina, Sarah Deneen and her wife Melissa of Salem, Eric Deneen of Winthrop, and Elizabeth Cobas and her husband Andres of Florida, his dear siblings Carol Grooper of Wilmington, Joseph Sacca of Belmont, John Sacca Jr. of Florida, Roy Sacca of Watertown, Richard Sacca, Robert Sacca and William Sacca all of Belmont, and the late Rita Pizzi. In addition he is survived by 8 cherished grandchildren, 3 adoring great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of George's Life in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 325 Trapelo Road, BELMONT on Tuesday morning Dec. 11th at 10:30 a.m. Interment with United States Navy Military Honors will follow at Saint Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday from 3 - 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St, Boston, MA 02108.
