Margaret M. "Peggy" Nix

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning January 12th, 2023 in the comfort of her home at the age of 91.

Born on July 3, 1931 in Belmont; daughter of the late Thomas D. Barrows and Margaret (Lawless) Barrows. Peggy was raised and educated in Waltham where she spent the majority of her life. She and her husband, John, also enjoyed spending many winters in Florida visiting with family members and friends.

Family was the most important aspect of her life; she cherished the time spent with her family for every special occasion, especially hosting an annual July 4 th Celebration and gathering for holidays and family birthdays.

Peggy was a graduate of Saint Charles High School in Waltham with the Class of 1950. Prior to raising her family, she worked at the former Woolworth's Store on Moody Street in Waltham, as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone, and a phone operator for the Boston Frozen Food Company. She also loved to help others and volunteered at several organizations, including Springwell (delivering meals on wheels and helping with money management), the Waltham Museum, Bristol Lodge and the gift shops at the Waltham Hospital and the Broward General Hospital. In addition, she was a longtime member and volunteer for the Waltham Historical Society and a member of the Friends of the Waltham Public Library. Peggy was the past Treasurer for the Waltham/Watertown AARP local chapter #3809. She had a love for animals especially cats and fostered many for the Cat Connection over the years.

Peggy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years John E. Nix, her son Thomas E. Nix and her siblings Mary T. Geoffrion (Paul) of Newton, Thomas D. Barrows, Jr, George Barrows and William Barrows (Margaret) all of Florida.

Peggy is survived by her devoted & loving children John E. Nix Jr. (Diane) of Salem, NH; Patricia A. Debnam (Otis) of Waltham; Ronald H. Nix (Elizabeth) of Natick; Mary E. Good of Waltham; Judith E. Callahan (Michael) of Taunton; Priscilla J. Campana (Stephen) of Stow; and Margaret A. McCarthy (Scott) of Halifax; her 16 cherished grandchildren; her 3 adoring great-grandchildren and has a fourth great-grandchild due in May; her two sisters-in-law Marilyn Barrows and Mary Barrows both of Florida; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; a life-long friend Kaye MacLellan and long-time friend Pat Jones.

Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham on Saturday morning January 28th from 9:00 - 11:00 am. For those who wish to pay their final respects, but are unable to attend, please be sure to sign the guestbook at www.BrascoFuneralhome.com. Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Peggy's life and remember the love and friendship she shared with others at a Memorial Service in the Mary Catherine Chapel on Saturday morning January 28th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery, in Waltham.
