Obituary for Christian S. "Randolph" Bolgen

Christian S. "Randolph" Bolgen
Of Tewksbury (formerly of Stoneham) passed away peacefully on May 28, 2018 at the age of 93.
Loving husband of Marianne (Borch Jorgensen). Devoted father of Christian R. of Tewksbury, Nils and his wife Patricia (Callahan) of Foxboro, Stig and his wife Claudia (Leis) of Woburn, the late Susan Carrol Bolgen, and the late Erik Bolgen. Proud grandfather of Kurt and his wife Laura (Nelson), Dana, and Lisa. Proudest great-grandfather of Rosalie and Jack.

Christian was born on August 2, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA to parents Hulda (Hedenberg) and Karl H. Bolgen, recent arrivals to the U.S. He returned to Orebro, Sweden in 1928 with his mother, brother and sister where the family lived until the mid-1940s. Christian was drafted in 1942 while still in Sweden and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Germany from 1945 to 1948. He and Marianne met in Munich, Germany and were married in December, 1947 in Copenhagen – a marriage of over 70 years.

At the age of 14 Christian flew open-cockpit gliders in the Swedish countryside. Aviation remained a life-long interest, including many adventures flying gliders in New Hampshire with his family in the 1970s.

After discharge from the service, Christian studied mechanical engineering at Stockholm Technical Institute in Sweden. He moved back to the U.S. in 1952 with his young family, working primarily in the aerospace industry including over 30 years with Raytheon.

In his retirement, Christian greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He traveled widely with his wife Marianne including trips to the Pacific Northwest and Scandinavia for visits with relatives.
