Obituary for Mary R. Bergantino (Zammito)

Mary R. (Zammito) Bergantino

Of Waltham & Manomet, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, January 29, 2021 at the age of 91.

Born on August 10, 1929 in Boston; daughter of the late John and Benedetta (Attardo) Zammito, Mary was raised in Waltham and had been a resident of Waltham for most her life before retiring to the Manomet section of Plymouth. Most recently, she lived at Brigham House Assisted Living in Watertown, MA.

A 1949 graduate of Waltham High School; Mary, first and foremost, was a devoted wife to her late husband and a devoted and loving mother to her four children before working numerous jobs throughout her life.

In addition to caring for her family, Mary had fond memories of working in the Rectory of Sacred Heart Church preparing delicious meals for the priests and guests. Mary also worked as a daycare provider and retired from Keltron Corporation in the Waltham Watch Factory.

Mary had a strong faith in her God; for years she was an active and devoted parishioner of both Sacred Heart Parish in Waltham and Saint Bonaventure Parish in Manomet. She was a member of the Women's Sodality and the Holy Rosary Guild. She was a selfless person always putting others first. Mary loved being around her beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was the “other mother” to so many.

In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, reading, all types of jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and bingo, watching game shows, bowling in a league at the Wal-Lex, and most of all she was an amazing cook. Mary was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox. She truly loved being surrounded by her family at any and all family gatherings.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Moses (Pat) Bergantino and spent twenty-four happy years together until his death on May 8, 1977.

Mary is survived by her devoted and loving children, Joe Bergantino and his wife Joyce of Waltham & Meredith, NH; Kathy Bergantino of Waltham; Joanne LaRosee of Waltham; and Bernadette DeGregoris and her husband John of Newton; her cherished grandchildren Jaclyn Davidson, Joe Bergantino Jr., Marc LaRosee, Dennis LaRosee, and Jonathan DeGregoris; her adoring great grandchildren Joey III, Violet, Nathan, Kyle, Addison, Emmett, Jack, Grant, and Benny; and her dear sister Josephine Galvagno of West Newton. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved her dearly.

In addition to her husband, she is reunited in Heaven with her loving parents, and dear siblings Frances O'Brien, Pauline Zammito, John Zammito and Frank Zammito, and her son-in-law Richard LaRosee and other loved ones.

Out of genuine concern for those we love and care deeply about during this difficult time throughout the world and in our community, funeral services to celebrate Mary’s life and remember the love she shared with those she touched, will be private at Sacred Heart Church in Waltham followed by her burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Mary’s Funeral mass will be live streamed and viewable via this link for those who can not be present by going to harborviewvideo.com/brasco beginning at 10:45 a.m.
