Obituary for Florence B. McAvoy (Schofield)

Of Marlborough formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning December 28th, 2017 in the Marlborough Hospital at the age of 95.

Born on October 27, 1922 in Waltham; daughter of the late Freeman R. Schofield and Ethel M. (Bell) Schofield, Florence was raised in Waltham and had lived most of her life until moving to Marlborough in 2000.

A graduate of Waltham High School, Florence was a devoted and loving homemaker to her husband and children throughout her life. She had a strong faith in her God and loved attending church and signing in the choir.
Her greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with her family and friends at Wells, Beach in Maine or traveling to Nova Scotia.

Florence was an avid game board enthusiast and in her spare time enjoyed doing puzzles.

Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband James A. McAvoy in 1984.

She is survived by her loving & devoted children (Ret.) Commander Arthur R. McAvoy USN of Texas, Francis "Mac" McAvoy of Marlborough, Mary L. Mossman of Milford, Timothy J. McAvoy of North Carolina and Carol A. McKeon of New Bedford. In addition she is survived by 12 cherished grandchildren, 13 adoring great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of Florence's Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Wednesday January 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
