Obituary for Wilfred P "Willy" LaJoie
Wilfred P. “Willie” LaJoie 93,
Of Centerville died Wednesday at the South Dennis Healthcare of South Dennis.
One would describe his passing as the end of an era, for he was a man of his generation, described by others as the greatest generation, good man, great citizen, Patriot who served his country proudly, great husband and father.
Wilfred LaJoie was born in Tupper Lake, New York where he was raised and worked through his childhood on the family farm and then left school in the 11th Grade to become a Lumber Jack, and then he heard the call from his Country and he joined the United States Army serving in Quam and ran cranes to off load Ships.
He lived in in the Auburndale section of Newton for more than 50 years prior to moving to Centerville when his health began to fail.
After the war he returned to the States and arrived in West Newton and met and married the love of his life Mary, and became employed Diane Construction Company for a number of years and then by the Perini Corporation to drill a tunnel from Chestnut Hill to Boston. After his time with Perini Corporation, he developed a reputation as a master heavy equipment mechanic he went on to work for Waltham Automotive , E.J.Bleiler Equipment of Needham and ended up retiring from C.N. Wood Company of Watertown and Burlington after being there for 18 years. With his skills building him a reputation of his capabilities he was sought out by
people in need of his expertise so he began his own small business known as Willie’s Repair Service.
Anytime you wanted to see Willie’s eyes twinkle and a smile on his face was if you asked him about his son Dennis.
He was the husband of the late Mary R. ( Yerardi ) LaJoie son of the late Solomon J. LaJoie & Bertha (Poirier) LaJoie, Brother of the late Mary Jane Miller and Roland LaJoie.
He is survived by his son Dennis W. LaJoie of Centerville, and leaves many cousins.
His funeral will be held in the “ Mary Catherine Chapel” of the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham on Wednesday morning February 12th at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours will be in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday 5-8 P.M. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the family lot at Newton Cemetery. Parking attendants will be on duty.
