Obituary for Delia C. Vellante

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9th, 2022 with her loving niece by her side at Care One of Lexington at the age of 94.

Born on August 11, 1927 in Waltham; daughter of the late Camillo Vellante and Agata "Ida" (Iannetti) Vellante, Delia was raised in Waltham and moved to Watertown for a period of time before moving back to Waltham.

Delia attended the Bright Elementary School, then South Junior High School, graduating from Waltham High School with the Class of 1945. She had been employed as an Administrative Assistant for the government with the United States Navy in Washington, DC, and the United States Army in Germany and France. Delia worked at the United States Army Natick Laboratories until her retirement. She later volunteered reading for children at the Waltham Public Library.

She had a strong faith in her God and had been a longtime and devoted parishioner of Saint Jude Church in Waltham.

Her family and her friends were always first and foremost; she was loyal, generous, kind, and caring, but most of all a gentle soul. She cherished the time and special occasions she spent with everyone.

In her spare time, she enjoyed all types of arts & crafts and taking day trips.

Delia is survived by her devoted sister Norina "Nora" Fitzmaurice and her husband Arthur of Waltham; and her dear step sisters Ida Santamaria and Adeline Dolan both of Norwood. In addition, she is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters Alice Vellante, Ellen “Helen” Falzone and Rita Mosca.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Delia’s Life from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Friday morning Jan. 21st at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Jude Parish, located 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Thursday, Jan. 20th from 3 – 7 p.m. Parking attendants on duty. At the family’s request for the safety of those we love and care about, masks are to be worn during visiting hours and “Mandatory” during all gatherings per The Archdiocese of Boston.
