Obituary

Oscar L. Baralt

Of Waltham, MA passed away on April 08, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by love.

Born on March 20, 1936 to Dr. Jose M. Baralt and Clara L. (Odiot) Baralt in Havana, Cuba. Oscar has always had a love for animals and nature. He was extremely humble and intelligent and was always eager to help anyone. Oscar immigrated to The United States from Cuba in June 1962 when Fidel Castro took over. He worked at MIT doing research in several study areas until 1969. Oscar later went on to work at Lahey Clinic doing Cancer Research until 1980, then he began working in the Anesthesia Department as an Anesthesia Technician until his retirement on December 31, 2013. He was there for 42 years. It brought him great joy serving as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Mary’s Church and bringing communion to the sick and patients at Lahey Clinic from 2013-2020.

As time passed his passion for playing his Grand piano and listening to Classical music became a daily part of life. From his meticulously kept garden, to the great pride he took in maintaining he and his wife’s cars. Oscar was truly a Jack of all trades and a Master of many. He would always keep himself busy whether preparing a meal for family or entertaining friends.

In his spare time, you could find him engaged in the latest DIY project, staining, wood working, enjoying a movie on the History Channel or watching AMC and Chronicle. He was truly a “man of culture” and worldly experience and refined taste. Oscar had a gift for picking only the best!

Above all, he dearly loved his wife, daughter, family and friends.

Oscar is survived by is beloved wife Nury Baralt, his daughter Nikki. His father Dr. Jose M. Baralt, and mother, Clara L. (Odiot) Baralt, his sisters Amada Baralt and Josefina Baralt, whom all passed away in Havana Cuba. His Brother Jose A. Baralt who passed away in Mexico. His wife Maria Antonia (Esteve) Baralt, of Mexico, his niece Teresa Baralt and her children Mariana, Elisa and Daniel Ramirez, of Mexico, his nephew Martin Baralt his wife Susana (Zamudio) Baralt and his nieces Regina and Sofia Baralt of Mexico.

Following the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Boston, family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Oscar’s life and remember the love he shared with those he touched during a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church located, 133 School St. Waltham, MA on Saturday, April 17th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery, located 791 Walnut St. Newton, MA.

Oscar and his wife are such kind hearted people who always looked after me as a child coming home from elementary school. I remember him fondly playing his piano and having snacks and watching him make new recipes. His kind acts and spirit will never be forgotten and forever remembered and loved. ❤️

I will always remember Oscar from my years at Lahey Clinic. He was the true definition of a gentleman. As a colleague, Oscar would be the first to volunteer to help our staff no matter what the needs were. He was a professional in every sense of the word. The Anesthesia Department was very fortunate to have such a dedicated individual on our staff.
I was very blessed to have known Oscar and grateful for his support and friendship through the years. My condolences to Nuri and Nikki during this difficult time. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the pleasure of knowing Oscar when he retired from Anesthesia at Lahey and decided to volunteer. We had many interesting conversations over the years and I always loved it when Oscar came to our office to visit. I admired Oscar's gentle, kind and loving ways. He was generous with his time. I know he will be greatly missed and I extend my heartfelt condolences, to his wife, daughter, his family, and everyone who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
With sympathy,
Donna Silva
