Obituary for Edward "Okie" O'Connor

Edward "Okie"  O'Connor
Of West Newton, passed away, Thursday morning, November 24, 2016 at the Newton-Wellesley center for Alzheimer's Care. He was 82.

Born in Lowell to the late John and Margaret (Mahon) O'Connor and was raised in Cambridge and Belmont. He was a 1952 graduate of Belmont High School. He moved with his family to West Newton in 1969 and has been a resident ever since.

Mr. O'Connor served honorably in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.

He worked as a Design Draftsman for Raytheon for over 40 years. Recently Edward worked part-time at the Leo J. Martin Golf Course Pro-Shop.

Mr. O'Connor, or "Okie" as everyone knew him by, enjoyed bowling and coaching and umpiring his kids' Little League teams. Most of all, Edward enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Joan (Hickey) O'Connor, his devoted children David O'Connor of Framingham, Timothy O'Connor of Framingham, and William O'Connor and his wife Laurie (Bean) of Virginia, his brother Thomas O'Connor and his wife Amanda of Mashpee, and his sisters Margaret Crowley and her husband Steven of Needham, and Mary Pupa of Stoneham, his cherished grandchildren Christine and Courtney O'Connor of Nevada, and Abigail and Sean O'Connor of Virginia, and great grand father of Sophie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews

He was the brother of the late Robert, James, Richard, and John O'Connor.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, Sunday from 2 - 4:30 p.m. immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Edward's life. Parking attendants will be on duty.
