Of West Newton formerly of Waltham died peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, February 1, 2013, at his home. He was 88.
Mr. Zuppe was born in Rome, New York to the late Frank and Mary (Lupo) Zuppe. He grew up in Watertown and Belmont, he later moved to Waltham where he lived for many years until recently moving to West Newton.
A World War II veteran, Fred served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Allagash as a Fireman First Class.
Mr. Zuppe worked at Brandeis University for over 35 years as the Executive Chef.
He was a proud Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodge 953 in Waltham. He was also involved with several charitable organizations in Waltham including cooking meals for seniors and Meals on Wheels.
In his spare time Fred enjoyed Walking, being outdoors, working in his yard, playing cards and cribbage with seniors, going to the YMCA, and going to the beach especially to Martha's Vineyard with his family.
Fred was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Mary Jane Zuppe.
He is survived by his loving daughter Adrienne Mariani and her husband Gilbert of West Newton, his cherished grandson Michael Mariani and his wife Kaitlin (Columbare) of Waltham and his Christmas gift this year, his great granddaughter Noelle.
He was the brother of the late Frank Joseph, Jimmy Tommy and Bobby Zuppe and the late Josephine Henry.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend A Funeral Service in celebration of Fred's life at the Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, February 4, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
