Obituary for Norman F. Cavanaugh

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning June 10th, 2018 with his loving family by his side at Newton - Wellesley Hospital after a long illness at the age of 80.

Born on December 4, 1937 in Waltham; son of the late Gertrude (Murphy) Cavanaugh, Norman was a lifelong resident of Waltham.

A graduate of Waltham High School, Norman worked as a Buyer at the Clevite Corporation in Waltham for many years before becoming employed with the City of Waltham Wires Department until his retirement.

Norman had a passion for following horse racing. He enjoyed traveling to Saratoga, Lake George and going to the local Wonderland race track. He was an avid bowler and played in several leagues locally. He was a past member of the Waltham Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and the Waltham Lodge of Elks BPOE #953.

His greatest enjoyment in life came from following every aspect of his daughters life; he cherished the moments spent with her and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Mary E. (Bartleman) Cavanaugh, loving & devoted daughters Jean M. Carlson and her husband Eric of Waltham and Colleen Hutton, and his late son Robert "Bobby" Hutton, his cherished grandchildren Ashley, Jarad, Emma, Trevor, Jenna and Rhea, and his dear brother Brian Cavanaugh of New Hampshire. In addition he is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of Norman’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Thursday afternoon June 14th at 12:00 p.m. Visiting Hours will be held in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home prior to the funeral on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.
