Obituary for Thomas "Randy" Rando

Of Lexington passed away in his home, surrounded by family, on Monday May 7th, 2018 at the age of 90.

Born on February 5, 1928 in Waltham; son of the late Stephano and Rosaria(Giardina) Rando, Tom was raised in Waltham and lived for a period of time in Watertown and Belmont before moving to Lexington 32 years ago.

From a young age he worked on the family farm on Forest Street in Waltham. He was a graduate of Waltham High School, class of 1945, and started out in his business career operating Daylight Bowling Alleys in Malden and Randy's Bowl Away in Watertown. Tom, also known as Randy, then opened his first car wash in Watertown and for over 54 years he owned and operated Randy's Car Wash in Watertown, Waltham, Medford and Melrose. Tom had a passion for the car wash business and was a mentor to many in the industry; always there to lend a helping hand. He was an innovator and established the first exterior car wash in Massachusetts. Tom was a founding member and President of the New England Car Wash Association and a Board member for the International Car Wash Association.

He was a member of the Waltham-Watertown ProBus Club, the Watertown-Belmont Chamber of Commerce, a Trustee for Watertown Savings Bank and a member of the Watertown Lodge of Elks.

Tom was devoted to his work but also had a number of hobbies including playing his accordion, bowling and swimming. Despite the demands of his successful career, Tom always made time for his true passion, family.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years Irene L. (Watson) Rando, his devoted & loving children Judy A. Bousquet and her husband Ronald of Waltham, Rita A. Dutson of Arizona, Janice R. McDonough and her husband Terence of Dartmouth, Joyce L. Dunn and her husband John of Danvers, step-children Elizabeth A. Gauthier and her husband Daniel of Salem, and the late Susan M. White. In addition he is survived by 17 cherished grandchildren, 11 adoring great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Tom was also predeceased by his late sister, Rose (Rando) Marzano and great grandson, Greyson Seigneurie.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services in celebration of Thomas' Life at the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM on Friday morning, May 18th at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Brigid's Church, 2001 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday May 17th from 4 - 8 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.
