Obituary for Orlando Philip Capizzi

Orlando "Ollie" Philip Capizzi

Of Littleton formerly of West Newton, passed away, Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was 89.

Born and raised in Newton to the late Antonio and Carmella Capizzi, he was a graduate of Newton High School and a longtime resident of West Newton until moving to Littleton in 2004. He earned his Associates Degree from Stockbridge School of Agriculture of the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, class of 1951.

Orlando served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

In 1950, at the age of 22, Mr. Capizzi took over the family's Landscape Construction business, Capizzi & Co., Inc., after his father passed away. He worked at the business until the day he died, serving as the Chairman of the Board. He passed Capizzi & Co., Inc. on to its third generation, his son Anthony.

In his spare time, besides running his business, Ollie enjoyed spending time at his Hampton, NH home, fly fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Rita (Piantedosi) Capizzi, his devoted children Janet Mattos and her husband Joseph of North Carolina, Karen McCarthy and her husband Richard of Stoneham, and Anthony P. Capizzi and his wife Karen-Noel of Townsend, his cherished grandchildren Caitlin Briggs and her husband John of North Carolina, Kelli Buchanan and her husband Justin of North Carolina, Jeanna McCarthy and her companion Gregory Hagan of Malden, Kerri Hertz and her husband Benjamin of Medford, Philip Capizzi and his wife Siobhan of Topsfield, and Erika Wright and her husband Nicholas of Pepperell, and his 5 great-grandchildren Colin, Simon, Lainey, Jackson, and Emery.

He was the brother of the late Mary Schmitt.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Ollie's life, at the Story Chapel of Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 12 noon with a reception to follow.
